    Frame Question 71 car

Hi... I want to know if I can take an originally Automatic car, change out the transmission to a Manual Transmission, and then be able to return the car back to its original Automatic transmission (at some later point). I need to understand if the Frame configuration will support this. I want to avoid having to impact the originality of the Frame/car! This would be for a 71 car, but any info for 68 to 72 also needed. Any advice appriciated, Thanks Tony

Yes, it can be done without too much trouble. The bolt-in crossmember used for automatic trans-equipped 68-82 Corvettes can be used with a manual transmission. If they are not already present, you will need to drill a few extra small holes for the shifter bracket. You will also have to add a few welded-on brackets for the transmission mounting bracket used for manual transmission cars.

You will also have to add the welded-on frame bracket for the clutch cross shaft.

You will need to use either a 71-74 Muncie transmission or a 75+ T-10 if you are to use the automatic driveshaft. If you switch to a 68-70 4 speed transmission then you will need to use a 68-70 manual transmission driveshaft with a conversion u-joint at the differential end.

Other than the above, it's pretty much bolt-in. However, you will, of course, need to obtain all the parts related to the manual transmission application. That involves quite a few pieces.
