Point loss from incorrect emblems - C2

The guy I bought my 1965 from had installed Fuel Injection emblems on my non-fuelie 300HP car. He wanted to make it a fuelie.

How many points would I lose if I left them on ?

How many points would I lose if I removed them for judging ?

Anyone ever managed to get decent results by removing emblems and filling the holes and then applying some touch up paint ? Would body filler work OK to plug the holes ?

Eventually I'll grind it down and lay some fiberglass from both sides when I am ready to repaint. Just need something for now for a Chapter event next month.

You won't lose point(s) by having the emblems present, only for having holes in the body that shouldn't be there, ie. there's a tiny fraction of the body fibreglass missing.

Deduction might be 2-4 points or so.

Poorly repaired holes with flawed repaint might result in a much bigger deduct.

I'd remove the emblems if they bothered me, but not strictly for judging purposes.

This posting mentioned a full paint deduction because of Zora's signature.

      I was worried about that.

If I am only getting dinged a couple points for the holes then I will leave the emblems on for judging.

The only thing that might make me remove them is that I'd want the Mechanical judging team (and the rest) to be darn sure I was presenting it as a 300 horse car, not an FI car missing a lot of pieces.

Mark, If you are just having your local chapter judge the car I would leave the emblems alone for now. No way can you fill the holes and use touch up. Experienced body men have trouble filling in those holes without them showing up in short order. Not an easy thing to do.

As Dr. Patrick said just make sure the judging chairmen, etc knows you have a 300HP car. Or you could make things a lot easier and put on a nice fake fuel injection unit.
Story: Since the economy has gone down the toilet I don't have guys calling or coming up to me at a show asking how much does it cost to put a FI unit on his/her carb car.
That alone is probably the best thing that has come out of the recession.
          Good luck, JD

            John;

I've been meaning to talk to you about just that; What do you have for my 63 L-76 to make it a L-84?

Just kidding. I've had my experience with Fuelie units and it was fun, but I prefer the greater and cheaper potential of carburetion. I think they lost some of their impressive mystique also when they went to the "ducted" air cleaner. I used to love the open air cleaner whistle.
            Have a great day.

I don't think the judging czars have this one figured out yet. Or should I say, equitably figured out yet. I would assume that the emblem would be deducted just like a right hand mirror. A small deduction for the mounting holes and the mounted item would be ignored. But here is another thing to consider.

My 69 has a ZL-1 stripe and takes a full paint deduct because of it. I have argured that it is a "Factory Inspired Stripe". The judging guide references deducts for "non-factory inspired stripes". I have been told that although the stripe came from the factory on one car, mine wasn't it and thus the full deduct. I suppose the same argument could be said about your FI emblem. Although paint and emblems are physically different, both of these identified an engine option.

Here is another kicker. I have been told that if my car was judged with primer over the tops of the fenders and across the nose then only a partial deduct (about 15%) would be in order. Doesn't make sense to me but those are the rules of the game right now. I would just leave them on and expect a small deduct.

Stu, When I was a young man tooling around in a 65 FI and then later a f 63 FI (daily driver) we used to disconnect the front balance tube going thru Bob's Big Boy or Eat n' Park just so for the whistle effect. Sorta sounded like a fake blower. JD
