the powerglides installed in the 53 , 54 and 6 cylinder 55 corvettes were designed such that the internal lubrication was turned off when the engine idles in the PARK position, hence it is important to not let the above powerglides idle in park for more than a minute or so. if you have to idle the above vettes for an extended period of time, place the powerglide in NEUTRAL(with emergency brake set) and lubrication will exist. the above Corvettes used the same case and lube system as the 54 Chevy pass car powerglides. If your c-1 is a 55 V8 or later c-1 powerglide, their lubrication systems were changed allowing idling in park or neutral. mike

roy: the 1955 Engineering Features states "another durability feature is a change that permits prolonged idiling in park is a change manual valve to allow oil to lubricate and cool the moving parts with the selector in this position" mike (who hates powerglides but has to live with three of them).- Top
