    "R" Hooks for my C2

    I bought a set of 4 "R" hooks for my '65 while at Carlisle this year... After reading all the warnings about trailering my car by connecting to suspension components, I decided to do it right...

    Looking under the car, I can see where the "R" hooks connect to the frame up front.. vertically just in front of the A arms and in the rear basically at the cross member in front of the rear wheels... In both cases the holes are pretty much oval in shape...

    I just want to verify that these are the correct locations and that once the "R" hooks are in place, they run straight down up front and cross in the rear to the tie down points....

    Thanks,

    Joel

    You got the right holes, and the right hooks. The rear ones have a slight lip on the edge that faces down.

    Happy trailering.

      Terry;

      Thanks!! I guessed right! Those holes were the only places where the hooks would fit!!!

          Can someone post a picture of how the R hooks go in the front? Usually we just wrap a strap around the A arms.

          Thanks,
          Dave

            Dave,

            Sure thing, now that I know what I am doing... Probably be in the AM however.

              Guys;

              Here are the pictures of the "R" hook and the front mounting hole.

                Joel,

                While your posting pictures, do you have any of the rear position? If it's where I think you're describing in the rear, are the straps going to run into things like the spare tire tub if you cross them?

                  Jody;

                  Honestly do not know... this next time out will be the first time using the hooks... Given that this was how the cars were originally secured, my guess is that it will probably be OK.

                    The straps will be well below the tub

                      Joel,

                      Thanks for posting pictures. Can I ask, where did you purchase the R hooks?

                      Thanks,

                        Tell me if I'am wrong, but are these hooks used to strap your Corvette on to a trailer? Did GM supply these hooks with the car or was this an option?
                        Now i know what the holes in my corvette are for ,
                        Thanks

                          Dave/Twan;

                          I bought the hooks out at Carlisle this year.. from one of the vendors.. paid $8.00 each which I thought was not a bad price...

                          I know that Northern Tool sells them as well, but as part of a set which includes hooks for other applications... were like $25.00 a set, so this was a better deal.

                          I'll bet other folks on this board will have sources as well.

                            Yes, they are to strap your Corvette to a trailer.
                            No, they did not come with the car. They did come with the carrier (18-wheeler or rail road train) that hauled the car from the assembly plant.

                            There are other holes in the frame that were used in different steps of assembling the car. For many of those holes, only those working in the assembly plant will know what they were for.

                              I can't find them on Northern Tools. Can I trouble you for a link?
