    CRITTERS making homein interior

OK can anyone tell me how to keep those pesky
little rodents from setting up house in my corvette
new interior .The car will be stored in my garage
this season. In the past they have attacked the
    seat stuffing etc.All advice welcomed.

I purchased a rubber seal that glues to the floor under the garage door. So combined with the rubber on the bottom of the garage door it seals really tight. I bought it at the Menards store but I would think most building stores would have them. I also had a couple of holes along the bottom of the walls so I added plywood to the inside of the walls to seal them up tight. I haven't had any varmits in the garage since then.

Say hello to W...22 lbs of anti rodent. I do have the luxury of having a chicken wire fence between W and the cars.

I'm heard it mentioned that the strategic placement of ordinary moth balls does wonders as a rodent repellent...

Glue traps , glue traps , glue traps! And for holes rodents don't eat thru steelwool. I'm thinking this year of getting some of those storage tents with fans. I spoke to the guy at Carlisle and like he said he's been there for years , if it didn't work he wouldn't be there anymore. Jim

Don't know where you live, but at my rural house it's one word....CATS.
Takes care of moles, mice, little snakes, beetles......no problem.

Don't do much for hornets, wasps, poisonous spiders, rattlesnakes, skunks, raccoons, deer, bears, cougars, etc.
(Going outside sometimes can be an adventure around here.)

Hopefully those aren't invading your Corvette....

            Cheers,
            Sandy

I would use Moth Balls. Moth Balls will discourage the varmits from taking up residence. Moth Balll smell is easy to get rid of by airing out the car for a day or so when you start to use it.

I do not think I would use Glue Traps in the car. If you catch something and it dies before you discover it, you may have a problem getting rid of that smell.

Glue Traps around and under the car may be fine, but they still need to be checked on a regular basis.

              Just my thoughts,

              Chris

                1. One large glue trap at the inboard edge of each tire

                2. Mothballs everywhere, regularly replenished

                3. Rodent repelling noisemakers in the vicinity of the car(sonic or ultrasonic seems to work equally well).

                4. Hood and trunk open (mice like enclosed spaces)

                5. No warm and fuzzy car cover (they make very inviting nest foundations).

                6. No paper towels or cloths (nesting material) where mice can get to them.

                7. Find the holes through which they are entering the building and seal them.

                    Francis,
I read an article once about using sheets of Bounce to ward off mice
in cars. It said that they could be put anywhere inside the car.
Especially in the glove compartment, under the seats, on the carpet and etc.
It was on the internet a couple years ago. Said it works and doesn't stain
                    anything. Smells good also.

I've used mothballs before and boxes of Decon Pellets, but...only on the garage floor.

                    Good Luck.

                    Karl.

                      Francis,

                      Ever see this:

                      :

That is my interior firewall insulation sitting under the air cleaner filter on my 67 327/300. Corrected the problem by replacing the missing tach/speedo grommet through the firewall, and setting a number of mousetraps. (but to no avail).

Best preventative is a cat as posted by others

I know to some this might sound stupid but, my stand alone 3 car garage has a woods on one side and lawns on the other 3 sides and I have never seen a mouse in the building.
My method is to leave the radio on with loud music whenever I am not in the garage. This has worked for the last 6 years.

I use moth balls set in small containers at each side of the garage door year round. Until my cat died he loved sleeping in the garage at night, even in winter. This will be my second winter coming without him.
Before my cat I noticed where the garage door weatherstripping had been nawed enough for a small mouse to enter and set a mouse trap. Caught the mouse and replaced the weather stripping. I regularly check the weather stripping for entry signs of damage.

Dryer sheets do the trick... RV'ers use them all the time to keep the pests out of the unit during the winter months... Place them at access points and hiding places outside and in...

Good luck.. if all else fails... get a cat!

                              Francis:

I moved out into the country 15 years ago, and immediately developed a mice problem. They used to come into the garage and occaisionally into the house. Jerry's picture is close to what I found in my garage. I got rid of the mice with good old Victor mousetraps and some decent chedder, although they seemed to like gouda, and munster too. This has worked every time I detected a problem, and I've had no further damage to anything in the garage or house. Put two under the car and one in the floorboard. Just remember to check the traps and not forget them for three weeks like I once did. It usually takes a day or two for the mice (they are almost always in twos) to get accustomed to it and go for the bait. I had never used mouse traps before but I'm sold.

I also once had a couple of Hog nosed snakes that had taken up residence in the garage. They also worked very well, but I finally had to run them out. They look like pit vipers and they scared me more than once. You never knew where they were and I did'nt want to take one for a ride in the Vette.
