    Re: CRITTERS making homein interior

We also live in the sticks and have cats and have tried many of the tricks . The best one is still a few mouse traps with peanut butter. I also screw the traps to a short two by four so when they trip, they do not make a mess. They are easier to handle also. We had a small fire in the blower plenum of our 91 Sunbird convert. after a winter rest, as the resistor set the nest on fire with smoke pouring out of the vents and the cowl after I shut the blower off.

John, I think you may be right. I have two friends near me who each have epoxy floors and neither have ever had mice. They are the only ones in the area who have not had them.

          Congratulations on the induction.

            Raccoons prefer 61s

What a fine home a 61 can be for a young raccoon just starting out.

I use bars of open Irish Spring Soap and place them around the garage and the unoccupied house. It doesn't leave thatmoth ball odor. Good luck. Bill

                1. I've been using "Fresh Cab" for the past few years with good results. Smells good too. Google it to find it.

                2. Fox or coyote piss. My local Tru Value has fox piss.

                3. Blood is also good. There's some fertilizer made from animal blood. Human hair from your barber shop would also be good.

                4. I still use moth balls because they're cheap. Although 1 year I found the critters had collected them and buried them in the frame rail.

                5. A cat'd be the best.

                6. I also have some Irish Spring and Bounce dryer sheets in the garage because they too are cheap.

                7. A long time ago I found some jobbie that plugs into an outlet that's supposed to emit a sound that humans can't hear and animals don't like. It was cheap, so I bought it and plugged it in. I have no idea if it works. How could I tell?

                8. Stuff holes and your tailpipe with steel wool. Critters don't like steel wool, and they won't mess with it.

                9. Spray peppermint oil around. My Lowes carries peppermint oil in a sprayer as a deer repellant. Sprinkle pepper around. Local city street fairs usually have booths selling cheap spices.

                10. I solved my problem once and for all by putting my car in one of those car capsules.

These "cures" almost sound worse than the disease. I know that's not true, having seen the damage rodents can do, but gosh just the thought of this stuff gives me the willies.

You better make sure it is male fox or coyote urine. Otherwise you may be creating a totally different problem.

I tried some of that coyote urine ($17 a bottle) and sprayed it on a few new saplings I had planted, as the deer bucks rub their antler's on small trees in the winter, taking off the bark and killing it. It didn't work for me, so I had to fence in the trees. PT

                        Re: CRITTERS making homein interior

Truth be told, fox fear coyotes, they are natural enemies. Talking critters that might nest in your vette we are a bit out of bounds with cannines, even as deterents. Mice are everywhere and unless you have a house broke yote or fox, the mouse population won't be affected.

Hornets are a summer problem on some cars waiting their turn at restoration.

An occassional squirrel might show up to chew a wire or two. Of course it is best to keep deer off your car as well.

Cats are good but make sure they are declawed. Cats love AK leather seats if they have front claws. A declawed cat with hind claws and a tentative attitude will leave claw marks on the curvy portions of your car as they go slip slidin around.

Just don't let the car sit!

Sounds like eveyone has some kind of critters.....if anyone has a solution for the hornets and wasps, I would love to hear it.

Some people around here have quite a problem with little bunnies chewing wiring too......my ***** killing cats take care of that.

Back yard deer so far have kept all four feet on the ground and off the trailers/vehicles. The front yard deer come right up on the front deck and look in the windows.....keep the blinds down now, as a neighbor had one jump through the window. (Not one of the smart ones.)

I've seen "dryer sheets" mentioned, but I was told USED dryer sheets work better.

Otherwise, that plastic car bubble thing is probably your best best.

I wouldn't count on dryer sheets working. Had an employee at work who kept snacks in a desk drawer. Some rodent learned of the stash and began visiting every night. Dryer sheets (Bounce) were put in the drawer with the snacks. The mouse continued its nightly feast without interruption!

I think it was because now the mouse had a supply of napkins. next we will have to get a tea set and have a real party.
