Questions to think about for some people

I haven't seen the new JM for 56-57 but heard it's great with many pic's of original parts . I also look at C&C repro parts listed on e-bay (is there anything NOT repro'ed for 56-57) Do the 57 JM cover logos and part numbers when used on the original parts?. Many repro's don't, so how would they be judged.
Many here know I'm nuts about the 55 Corvette and tried to show original parts because we are so few , 55 is so unique from any other year Corvette , and yet still not well covered in a JM before many old guys die off that know a 55, or any other year Model.
I'm just thinking that in time many repro's parts will become the stander or thought of as being original if original parts are not documented SOON (in pic) for any year model Corvette which covers logo's ,manufactories, numbers , first-second and third design.

I would like other members thoughts about this or should we just let history go and go along with what ever comes??
I only bring this up because I've seen to many awards won to Corvettes having so many repro parts installed,

And right now I feel I should keep my thoughts to myself

    Roy,

I for one totally agree. Photos and brief text descriptions could be created by model year and by parts group. Disk space is cheap -a 1 Terabyte disk could easily hold 10,000 images for about $100 bucks.

With the pervasiveness of the internet, an IPhone or similar device could access the database direct from the judging field to help answer any questions or make a real-time determination as to a part's originality.

So why is this not happening? This is everyday technology for most people.

Doug, you are correct - data storage devices are readily available. We just spent over two years trying to agree on photos and their correctness to include in the newly released 1956-57 JM 5th Edition. The problem set is the screening and approval of correct photos, not whether or not they can be stored. Thank you for your suggestion. NCRS can always use good volunteer programming resources. Gary and others are doing a great job but don't think it will ever happen covering all models , number one problem is having more then one outside supplier to GM but they too can be added . It has to start with just one model first to get the ball rolling. But with more then three people and using their own time again I don't see it ever happen . There are just to many repro parts out there now and original parts being thrown out because they are NOT pretty, rusty, worn and lacking a nice cad look and on and on!
I use only original parts but again I take hits on some condition, that most people will not take to reach 100 points and then listen to some one saying their part is not perfect pretty!

Roy, I couldn't agree more that what you suggest is needed. I do not know why this has not been done before as there are people that seem to have lots of info but not in a published form. This is a problem for all early years in particular as there are lots of incorrect parts being sold as "originals". I like to put back original parts on my car if I can verify they are correct as production items and not re-issue NORS (not NOS) as advertised. The photos that you post are great encouragement to look harder for parts. Keep up the postings!!!!!!
          Mike

BTW there is a "GCK" logo on my short 53-54 exhaust extensions (that I just spent 12 restoration hours on).

Three JM/judging related issues that concern me:
            1. I see many people restoring their cars to only what the JM says, even when its off base and needs correcting/updating.
            2. Since the 53-55 JM contains just a fraction of the knowledge stored away in many expert, old time restorers heads, the restorations that just follow the JM aren't as factory original as NCRS philosophy should dictate.
            3. Even though there is a photo of the correct 6V positive battery cable terminal in the JM, the last two NCRS events I've attended this year the judges did not notice incorrect cables on any of the 6V cars judged. So just having photos will not necessarily improve the judging.

I don't see it ( the JM) cover what were talking about. Corvettes with racing history have more correct info then a judged Corvette.
The 53 to 55 with all the time that has passed being the first Corvette that NCRS started with, you would think the JM would be covering each and every item you could think of DONE . But the big interest and money is in C2's and later Corvettes unless it's a C1 having BB, FI, or was a racer ! OH well!! I'm just thinking again.

Re: Questions to think about for some people

We have thought about this in the past and evaluated a WikiPedia like solution for this, were everybody could contribute their knowledge. I'm not sure why it was considered to be "not suitable"... Maybe it had to do with the needed resources to implement and maintain it (volonteers), maybe it was considered a thread for the JM's???

We do have special discussion forums on this TDB only accessable for the JM-teams to exchange pictures, start postings on specific topics, etc. Feel free to volenteer for the 53-55 team (if you haven't done so yet)...

We do have this forum to discuss parts, including they characteristics, posting pictures, etc. Feel free to do so.

Last but not least: pictures can be send to the teamleaders for consideration for the next JM revision...

                regards,
                Rob.

You know I've posted in your registry covering mostly accessories . I met you at the San Joe meet and was nice to meet you. I sent some info to the 55 team leader and hear back at this time his life is busy and soon will be working on the JM.
I'm just one of the long time members that wont to pass on what I know about 53-55 Corvettes to be considered in the JM before I for get being 69 years old. I do that by using this forum and pic's which anyone can think about or write to the restorer as an article if they wish. I try to stand outside of NCRS because of Politics, I'm the type of person that asks questions and puts ideas out there on how better to get newer people to come to NCRS with their Corvette like people that are in SACC that I started because of Politics ! which I thought would be a interesting part or arm of NCRS by recognizing there still Corvettes. They drive their Corvettes, original or Mod and (many are younger people) and because of that I feel they are the future to help keep the hobby alive.
But that's my thinking and some people think I dislike NCRS because of what I just stated (wrong)! my 2 cents
