    Bloomington Survivor

I just bought a car that the previous owner said it had won a bloomington survivor award, does anyone know if you can ask them to research it for you? In other words, will anyone look it up by serial #, or some sort??

Contact Bloomington Gold to find out if the PO claims are true:

There is contact information part way down the page.

If it got that award, the previous owner will have the certificate.

Thanks John, As Terry said, I sent a message to Bloomington asking if they can look up a previous winner. The fellow I bought the car from didn't get the award info from the previous owner. The decal "Bloomington Survivor" is on the window. Its a 34,000 mile , very original car. I'm sure it would have been an easy Survivor, I hope to attempt to Bowtie the car next year.

          Don,
There is a large difference between a Bloomington Survivor and a Bowtie award. If the car is 80% - 85% original in all 4 categories then you will achieve Bowtie status. The Bowtie process is fun. Best of luck with it.

Terry, John, Dave, you fellows have lots of experience. I think I made a big mistake, on bad advice. It's my own fault for not checking another opinion. This car I bought is a 34,000 mile dead nuts original now let me express my boo-boo. Paint is fantastic. It may have had some small spot work up near the hardtop, SMALL. I'm pretty sure the rest of the paint is original, bumpers beautiful, I don't think it has ever had a bump, and the bumpers have never been off the car, great glass, grille, . Interior is near perfect and all original , undercarraige is pretty much untouched, al;though it has repleacement ball joints. Engine compartment great, replaced radiator, replaced belts, replaced fuel filter, orignal chrome, . I think the car is good, now for the problem. The previous owner tore the top just before I got the car . I was told a Hardtop soft top, I could choose to Bowtie it and not take the hardtop off. Sooo , I replaced the top. I don't understand the 85% rule for exterior. Would that automatically make me loose exterior for 1 star. I guess I have the option of putting the old top back on, if it waqsn't harmed taking it off. I' just asking for a gut reaction of do I still stand a chance? Thanks

Guys, I'm sorry. I want to Bowtie the car . I'm sure it would almost be a lock for a Survivor. And I meant did I lose my chane of Bowtie?

                Don,
Did you buy a 64 white roadster, red interior, 365 hp from Corvette Mike of Calif?

                      Don -

The criteria for Bloomington Gold "Survivor" is at least 50% original in each category, and you can flunk one category entirely (passing 3 of the 4) and get the award. BIG difference compared to NCRS Star/Bowtie criteria.

John, Sometimes I must think that people can read my mind. I'm concerned about a Star/Bowtie award . I'm worried about my removing the old top.
Also, thanks for the tip Terry. I heard from Bloomington, and I will be getting a copy of my Survivor certificate, and the score sheets!

                          Don,
There are a lot of factors here so you will need to discuss this with your team leader and go through the normal Bowtie inspection at a regional prior to the actual judging process. To give you some hope I am aware of a Bowtie car that did have the convertible top replaced so it is possible.

                            Don,

The score sheets won't really help you at all, if in fact Bloomington has them.

If you have ever watched Bloomington Survivor vs. NCRS Bowtie judging, you would understand. In Survivor judging, the judges spend no more than 15 minutes on your car, assessing all 4 areas. They walk around it, look at parts of it, and give it a thumbs up or a thumbs down. On to the next car.

For Bowtie judging, the judges get sheets "somewhat similar" to Flight judging sheets but (as noted elsewhere) only with Originality Yes/No as criteria. They spend quite a bit of time on your car, just like with Flight judging.

They really are an "apples and oranges" comparison. I have watched Survivor judging, but never judged it. I have a Bowtie car (been thru it as an owner) and have also judged Star / Bowtie.
