Correct Date Coded Master Cylinder for '81

I have an '81 with very few original miles, that I plan to have re-judged. Problem is, the Brake Master Cylinder is a service replacement (long story ).....and they took off enough points for this to where I am now trying to make it correct before judging.

Can anyone tell me who/where I can possibly get a correct date coded Master Cylinder for my car. One that will pass NCRS judging scrutiny.

Also, how should the date code correspond to serial number of car? In other words, the car is an early '81 vehicle. Are these Master cylinders coded by quarter, half years, or are they supposed to be within a certain range based on s/n?

Thank you in advance, and I look forward to any replies....

The master cylinder for your car was a GM #5460346 casting. These were usually date coded on the forward brake line machined boss with a stamped julian date code (i.e. "1031"= 31st day of 1981 or January 31, 1981). You want a date code up to 6 months prior to the build date of the car.

You can obtain a reproduction master cylinder with any stamped date code you want from Corvette Stainless Steel Brakes. These reproductions are excellent. Can they be discerned in judging? Some judges MIGHT be able to discern them, but I doubt that many will be able to. I don't know just how "perfect" the caps are, though, and that's usually the area of the most intense scrutiny.

Otherwise, you could obtain just about any 5460346 casting (configured like the later C3 versions without a front broadcast code stamping), have the front brake line boss machined slightly to remove the date coding and have a new date code stamped. Corvette Stainless Steel Brakes might even do this for you.

One note here: the master cylinder for your car originally used mounting holes that were METRIC sized (10 mm, I think). I don't know if the holes on the reproduction master cylinders are metric-sized, or not. However, it does not matter since there's no way that anyone will be able to tell the difference when the master cylinder is mounted on the car.
