    Ignition switch Lamp 1965

    Dittos on the PV comment.

    I have the ignition switch lamp working but for the life of me I can't see what it actually lights!! If pull out the tumbler I can see where the lamp shines through a small slot on the top of the switch housing.. I can also see a corresponding slot (I think this is what it is) on top of the tumbler which might in fact light the key hole itself...

    Can I impose on someone to describe how this is supposed to function and where the light is actually supposed to be visible!?!

    Thanks again,

    Joel

    Hi Joel, the only way you can see it is in a totally dark car with the dash lights on. I would guess it would be useful if you removed the key when the engine is running for your girlfriend to unlock the glove box for a stick of gum, then you could return the key to dimmly lit key slot in the switch, or??????

      Joel -- here's how I THINK it works in 1965. This is a correct 660 ign switch, and you can see the light bulb; cardboard shield with the little hole has been removed and it's held under my thumb. You can see the slot in the switch where it is inserted into the instrument panel, and you can just see the slot in the top of the tumbler where the light can enter the empty key slot.

        Wayne/Dan;

        Thanks for the replies.. you guys have confirmed what I suspected which is a good thing!

        Dan; no girlfriends in the car that is unless you include my wife!!

        Wayne, Near as I can determine what's in there now is an after market (repro) switch with the separate bulb holder and shield... The "slot is slightly off center, to the left, when the switch is properly installed. I need to try and find one similar to what you have in the picture.. I suspect with the slot dead center one might actually be able to see some light... Any idea where I might get one?

        Thanks!!

        Joel
