Ok not a Corvette but, I took my 1969 Camaro out for spin today, the car worked great for the first 10 miles of driving then I made left hand turn went to 2nd gear and nothing all the tension on the clutch pedal was gone and I could not get it into gear. I ended up stoping on the side of road starting the car in gear and putt putting home. The linkage all seems to work fine, I'm thinking that the fork broke off inside the bell housing, but one would think that would have made a pile of noise, and I dont hear anything. Anyone have any idea's before I start tearing the tranny out?

Re: Clutch Problem
Matt;
Get under there and take a peek.. it is probably not the clutch fork.. you may have lost a spring or even perhaps a clevis pin somewhere.
I gotta assume that your clutch is fairly new so I would suspect that it is still in tact... probably a linkage issue.
have fun!

Re: Clutch Problem
I went through and checked all the pins/pivot points in the linkage, everything seems to be functioning properly. This was on the side of the road though. Tonight I will drop the linkage off of the fork and see whats going on. Should be a little easyier when the headers are not hot.- Top

As Steve described above, you want to check the linkage UNDER THE DASH. This where the pedal push rod articulates with the clutch pedal. On a 1967-69 Camaro, the clevis is an integral part of the pedal pushrod (Corvette guys are not so lucky; for Corvettes the clevis is part of a separate, bolt-on bracket (63-66) or, worse yet, welded to the clutch pedal arm (67-81)).
Your clevis portion of the pushrod may be worn through OR the retainer clip may have fallen off allowing the pedal pushrod to "disconnect" from the pedal.
If you need a new pedal pushrod, the GM parts are discontinued. However, I'm pretty confident the Camaro reproduction sources will have them.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Clutch Problem
I have now gone through the linkage piece by piece, from under the dash to the clutch fork, its all there and intact. I had my dad get in the car and push the clutch pedal in and out, everything seems to move as it should. Pulled the boot off from around the fork and can see that the fork is still on the pivot ball. If the pressure plate was shot would it not have made or be making some kind of noise? I just dont get this, and really dont want to pull the tranny but looks like my answer is going to be behind the bellhousing.- Top

If the linkage is all there, intact, and connected, then I'd say the problem must be inside the bellhousing. I don't know what it is but I seriously doubt you'll find a broken clutch fork. I've never seen one of these break.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Clutch Problem
Thanks Joe
I dont think its the fork either, and I'm driving myself nuts thinking about it. Best just jump in c6 go for a drive clear my head and if the c6 breaks let roadside and warranty worry about it.- Top
