    69 side vent louver chrome

What connection system is used on an early production 69 car with side louver trim?

When I took the car apart the louver trim was screwed into the fiberglass with 1" chrome screws, no nut or retainer on inside. The assembly manual shows some king of well nut on the inside? Any idea which is correct? Thanks, Lynn Schwebach

Paragon has a photo of the kit. 7265K. It doesn't look like it is sold separately.

Thanks Jack, I did see the mounting kit at Paragon but do you know if the early 69 cars used this kit or did they just screw the trim to the fiberglass with out a back fastener? Lynn Schwebach

Save me some time looking this up tonight -- what is the option code for the louver trim?

Without looking it up, my bet is that you have an owner inspired option -- but I'll keep an open mind.

Terry, the option code for the side louver trim is TJ2. This is a factory option, my question is how were the louvers attached to the body on an early production 69 car. Screws thru the fiberglass or machine screw into a well nut? thanks, Lynn

            Lynne:
Well nuts are a common hardware store item. They come in various sizes (1/4-20 for example) and very inexpensive. The worn out well nuts I removed from my '69 many years ago were identical to the ones I bought locally at the hardware store. Hope this helps.

I started to get my reference material out, but by the time I got to the books it was almost midnight and I fell asleep in front of the computer. I'll try again tonight -- I have less on my agenda this evening.

Lynn, when I took my 69 apart to restore, my side louver trim only had the chrome screws and no "well nut". I haven't re0installed them as of yet, just because on a tuxedo black car, it looks pretty good with out them. However, having said that, I most likely will reinstall them just becuase the car came with them and seems like the right thing to do. Mine was a December 68 build. I would like to know the answer to your question as well.

My 10/04/68 build date has well nuts and louvers are listed on the build sheet.

                    Lynn,

I have restored early October build (serial# 4000 ish) and late build (serial# 36000 ish) and several in between all factory documented cars had 10-24 chrome counter sunk phillips head screws along with well nuts. Check you AIM it should show that. I have seen many dealer/owner added louvers with no well nuts.

I thought I might have something about this in my files, but the earliest piece of information I have is dated in December 1968 -- and it shows the well nuts. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Attached is a picture of wellnuts from my local hardware store. Several posters were not familiar with these so I hope this helps.

                          Jim,
Thanks for the info. The assembly manual clearly shows well nuts and maching screws but I know my car only had chrome screws direct into the fiberglass. Maybe the louver trim was installed by the dealer and they just used screws?? I'm going to use screws only as the screw fits better in the trim hole. Maching screws are not flush to the louver. My 69 is also black and the chrome loover is a very sharp look. Lynn Schwebach
