    Frame Pull Date Question

The build date of my 1966 corvette was on 4/22/66, which was a Friday. What would be an accurate pull date for the frame?

    Thanks

    Chris -

The pull date could be 4/22 if the car came off the line late on second shift, or 4/21 if it came off the line during the day shift. I'd go with 4/21.

I may be wrong but I thought that by April of 66 the frame date was changed from a hand written date applied at the St Louis plant to a date that was part of the stencil applied info from the frame source?

The hand written date would have been the same or one day off of the body build date but if it's a later build and the date part of the stencil, it would have been a few days before the body?

Does anyone know aprox when this change occured?

My 66 L-72 #5664, body S1798, body assembly date C-12 has the date included in the stencil, not hand written, and is 11-10-GC.

That makes sense, Cecil. Frame dated at Smith on Wednesday, the 10th of Nov, and the body in mid production on Friday, the 12th.

We don't know exactly when the frame date method changed but it was pretty early in 66 production.

We know that the hand written date method, applied at St Louis, was still being used as late as 20 Sept 65. An assembly (chassis line) pic shows frames with this date.

Also, in a previous discussion from yesterday, David Jewell posted a pic of a 66 frame stencil and the date was 17 March so we know the system changed to hand written at St Louis, to stencil at Smith. Link to thread below.
