Have your parts shipped to a friend USA (cheaper) then have the friend ship it to you saying it's a gift (cheap you pay no tax on inport ) I've done this and saved you kangaroos guys money.

Roy It's not the GST that I pay, I have worked my way around that. It's the weight, size and distance is the killer. I found a reliable guy who hauls out of Wilmington California and he puts the heavy items in his containers and I pay very little, but the time it takes to get from California on the slow boat can take up to 3 -4 months before I have it in hand. The lighter stuff by air is not to bad but if I need it now and it carries some weight it can be really expensive. I have a rule if it's going to cost more than the part by air it goes by boat !! The worst freight so far was my Radiator $500 freight. The box was 4 times the size of the radiator. Stewy

Most of us southerners end up in the sunshine state eventually. The weather here over the last 4 months has been disgusting not so cold but very windy. 100 kph wind has been typical and I'm sick to death of it. The ads on TV of late has been showing the beaches around your neck of the woods and it's very tempting. I'm so busy finishing of goals I have promised myself I would complete by Christmas has left no time for bathing in the heads of Noosa but after Christmas I'm coming. Do you have a brother in the States. Stewy

roy, just noticed the vendor you were using as an example. yesterday i received my "restored original" generator condensor that i purchased on ebay from same vendor. part did not appear original , so after looking closer at packaging i notice a lectric limited sticker under the vendor's sticker. after contacting vendor i was told they have no more original capacitors and they're using ncrs acceptable remakes as substitutes. not cost efficient to send it back so i just took the loss! now comes the unbelievable part! as i'm writing the doorbell rings. fedex is delivering a box which measures 14" x 5" x 5". open the box up and i see i have received a coil condensor (.appr. 5/8" x 1/4") from another vendor. at least with this one i can see why they charged $8 for shipping

Hint: there's a small secret out there call air freight, space available... We were able to ship a complete 283 engine (pan to carbs) via air from Denver to London, Heathrow for $359...

The same is true for US domestic shipments. The major carriers (UPS, USPS, FedEx) all have size/weight limits and at their upper limits they invoke dimensional surcharges (oversize) which can be HEAFTY.

But, Greyhound hauls packages of less than 100 lbs, counter to counter, based SOLELY on the maximum dimension of the package (length). Bottom line, the freight game is just that...a game. If you know the alternatives, you can be good money ahead!

Best bang for your buck on shipping in the U.S. is USPS Priority Mail. As much as you can get in one of the boxes up to 70 lbs for $10 bucks (rounded up). There's three different size boxes (maybe more) available. Can set up a "click'n'ship" logon and print/pay for the label. Then call USPS for a pickup if wanted. No standing in line at the ole Post Office to pay. Works like a charm for me. Gary....p.s. includes delivery confirmation
