Frame Numbers ?

I have a couple of questions.
My frame was under coated, I removed the under coating in the area of the frame numbers on the passanger side. As you can see they are in ok shape. I am not sure how to approach this . I want to clean and paint the frame but do not want to mess with the original numbers. I have seen the stencils and they do not seem to be the same as the originals. Help !

If you have to paint the frame, can you simply mask the stenciled area to preserve it ?? That's what I'd do. Actually, the area you photographed looks really nice.

Thanks for your imput. My concern was that If I did tape them off I might damage them. While writing this responce I just got and Idea !

I went to the yellow pages and found a local Co that made a stencil just like original. The stencil machine has 3/4 inch letters and is common on larger shipping crates. If you find a stencil maker have them make one exactly like your original using your photo as a guide. I imagine Quanta could do it too, if you ask.....
