67 Holley Delivery to St. Louis?

Does anyone know the frequency of deliveries of Holley carbs to the St. Louis in 1967? Was the Holley plant nearby St. Louis, or was there any significant shipping time?

The reason I ask, is that I just acquired a Holley 3810 with a date code of 763, which is the third week of June 67. The third full week of June in 67 would end on Friday June 23. However, the third Friday in June 67 would be June 16.

My 67 small block has a calculated assembly date of June 29, but the engine assembly date as stamped on the pad is June 26, a Monday. The casting date on the block is June 22 (F227), the previous Thursday.

So is it possible that the block was cast on the Thursday, the carb assembled on Friday, and the engine put together on the following Monday? Seems kind of close to me, would that be normal?

Looks like you will be seeing another Holley restoration project on the forum in the near future.

In those days, I believe the Holley manufacturing plant was located somewhere in Michigan. Of course, at some time later it moved to Bowling Green, KY. I'm not sure of the Michigan location and/or the time of the move to Bowling Green. Some of the Holley facilities in Bowling Green do look pretty old to me, so maybe Holley had some sort of manufacturing facility there prior to the move from Michigan or maybe they just purchased old buildings when they moved.

A lot of the Corvette components, manufactured far-and-wide from St. Louis, seemed to often get there pretty quickly. So, even if the carbs were manufactured in Michigan, I could see where they could have been shipped to St. Louis quickly. In fact, your engine was manufactured in Michigan and it made it to St. Louis apparently pretty fast.

Joe -- I have a replacement (ie service dates) LIST 2818-1 that came in a box with warranty forms and decals, from an address on East 9 Mile Road, Warren Michigan. By then it was a division of Colt Industries.

Don't know if this is where they were manufactured in the '60s.

From the archives of the Holley Foundation:

"By 1960, Holley facilities included administrative and engineering offices in Warren, Michigan, carburetor manufacturing in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and Paris, Tennessee, and aircraft fuel system production in Clare, Michigan."

The Holley manufacturing plant in Bowling Green opened in 1951.
