I would appreciate it if any of the above referenced owners would read my 1:47 PM post to the recent thread titled "Need Help To ID This Fan Clutch Assy" by Greg Linton and check the blades of their fans with a magnet.

Re: 1970-73 454 with C-60 Owners
When I bought my car, '72 454 w/ a/c early production (about 4300), the fan blades were unpainted and had that familiar dull metallic color of aluminim so I immideately assumed they were aluminum. At that point I fugured "So what".
Here's the sad part, with the nose of the car and one inner fender removed during the body restoration an employee decided to start the car to move it. You know that nice strong steel bracket that holds the top of the radiator shroud?? The tips of my fan blade became very friendly with it. It turns out that the steel bracket was very stubborn and would not move and saw no damage, barely a mark. The blade however had that familiar look of mangled, torn aluminum that had me out on so many service calls.
I think I can get my hands on the old fan if it helps, I didn't bring it home...bad reminders.- Top

Joe Reese who stores and mechanics Don Cast's Top Flight 1972 LS-5 with AC emailed me and states:
Don't have the car with me now to look at but if memory serves me the center is steel with aluminum blades riveted to it.

Re: 1970-73 454 with C-60 Owners
My own 1970 LS-5 with AC has fan blade number 3969926 dated A70 and all blades are aluminum (or some kind of alloy) with the center support being steel. Magnet will not stick to the blades.
I will likely be attending the Texas Regional NCRS meet in Killeen and will check out the fan blades on those that are LS-5s with AC.

Mike-----
1974 LS-4 with C-60 was supposed to use a different fan blade assembly than the GM #3992095. It should have been one without the "spiked" tips to the blades. However, I'd love to know whether yours has the "spiked" tips, or not, and, either way, if the blades attract a magnet. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Edward-----
Well, that's apparently another fan having aluminum blades I was not aware of. The 3991427 was used for 71-73 SMALL BLOCKS with C-60. It's a 7 blade fan but without the "spike" tips. I think the blade pitch is also somewhat lesser than the big block with C-60 "spiked" tip fans.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
