Torque Thrust Ds on a 67

I've been looking to purchase a set of torque thrust D wheels for my 67 but confused after reading some threads on the DB and archives. Some say the 15x6's wont clear the calipers, some say they do. Dont want to use spacers. Corvette Central sells them now as well as newstalgia wheels, they look the same from the pics but neither company makes any mention what cars they fit. PS Engineering also makes a version of these wheel but I'm assuming they are more pricey. Where to buy wheels that fit?

Tom, I've got a 72 C-3 and have the torque thrust M (which is chrome). the tire size is p235-55-17 they work great on my car, although the C-2 may need a smaller tire be cause of the wheel wells. 17" in. gives you the caliper clearance. I brought these wheels on E-Bay. They are very helpful on line with what will work with your car and tire size opitions.

      Tom,

From what I have read over on the corvette forum site AR redesigned the D's spokes to clear the calipers in the last year or so. However like you I got conflicting reports over there from guys who sid they ordered D's and they would not clear the calipers. Now, I've only inqured about 68-69 C3's, but I would guess if they will clear a C3 caliper they should clear a C2 caliper. A lot of the confusion arises because some of the posters are confusing the TTII's and M's etc with the original style D's. In order to avoid any fitment issues I recently (last week) ordered a set of wheels from Phil Schmidt at PS Engineering. Pricey, but high quality and they will fit without spacers.

I purchased a set of TSII for my 69 and they rubbed, they replaced them with a set that had a 1/2 different offset and they fit but just barley and I mean BARLEY. So don't take the catalogs word for fitment. I would purchase them from a local dealer that will stand behind them and guarantee fit because it could get to be a hassle and expensive to keep sending back from to an Internet seller. Maybe they are better for a 67 5" wheel but why chance it.

I had Torq-Thrusts from PS engineering on my '67. 15x6, polished outer with natural spokes. Completed them with shallow, polished aluminum American Racing caps. Yes, they were pricey but top quality and no problems with fitment.

what is the problem with a small spacer? I use them on the race car and have never had an issue. it would be difficult to even see a 1/8 inch spacer.

Tom: I am running torque thrust II's on my 67 and the just miss the caliper. If the offset is the same (check the specs) you should be good.

I just recently installed a set of Torque Thrust "D" s on a 66, they fit just fine with no clearance issues at all. I purchased them new from my local American Racing wheel wholesaler but could have purchased the identical wheel from the Summit Catalog, the current available wheel is not a problem, and they really are nice!

                    Thomas,
I bought Torque Thrust D's with Pirelli P4000 Supertouring (215x70R15) tires for my '66 roadster from Tirerack. I highly recommend the wheel and tire combination and dealing with Tire Rack.

Tire Rack guaranteed that the wheels and tires would fit, and they did. The wheels look great and the tires are the highest performance radials you can buy to fit on a midyear.

                    Cheers,

The person I talked to at Tire Rack said there was no way they would know if the TT D's would clear the brake calipers. I then ordered from PS Engineering as Phil guaranteed his wheels would fit. I guess with Tire Rack it depends on who you get on the phone as to what type of service you receive.

I configured the wheels and tires on Tire Racks web site for my 66 roadster. I then called them to confirm that they would fit without interference. The agent on the phone said absolutely, so I placed the order. The key point is that the Tire Rack configurator presents the Torque Thrusts, with the 3.58" backspacing and 4mm offset, as a wheel that will fit. I've been a good Tire Rack customer for years which may help. I've found them very helpful for all of my cars.

                        Cheers,
