    67 Judging Question

    1. Are floor mats part of interior judging or were they a dealer installed option?
    2. I have the original POP/warranty book. I know this is judged, but I'm not comfortable leaving this original document in the car. I also have a repro warranty book. What is the common practice for this area?
    3. In the OPs section for locks/door latching, what and how is this judged?

    Tx for any responses.

    Re: 67 Judging Question

Floor mats were a dealer installed option in 1968-1972. Usually the Interior team will ask the owner to remove the mats for judging, if the owner does not do so before the interior team arrives at the car.

Joe, just leave the original POP & book in the glove box locked. When they want to see the box, open it. Re: locks, the doors must lock using the ign key and also lock from the inside. Bill.

Just an observation Joe: editing your post (especially as thoroughly as you have) will leave many people in the dark. The edited post does not show up as a new post, so those of us who use the " new post highlighted" feature to show new posts will miss the edit -- that may leave someone with the answer to your question unaware of your question. It is not in your self-interest to edit your original post with new questions. New questions = new post. Also too many questions in one post tends to get confusing and or partial answers. I’m not saying 3 questions is too many – I don’t think it is. Just offering a suggestion.

It also leaves several answers to your original question looking like those responders ignored your later questions.

            2) Why leave the PoP in the car? Keep it in a folder or notebook (with plastic pages) and hold on to the notebook. Or bring someone with you who can hold on to the notebook with all your documentation, and photos while you perform the locking and door opening that checks those functions.

            3) There is no set drill or routine for checking the lock and door latch function. The Operations judge(s) will ask you to lock the door, with the key, and/or with the interior lock. He/she will ask you to open the door with it locked and unlocked. They may ask you to open the door from the outside and/or inside (easily done with the window down). Repeat for each side of the car. It should come as no surprise that when unlocked the door is supposed to open, and of course, not open when the door is locked.

BTW: Your title says "67 questions" yet the symbol you chose says 70-72. That makes it kind of hard to figure out which year car you are asking about -- not that it matters for the questions you asked, but you will get a different set of lookers and responders depending on which generation of car you ask about.

Or does the 67 questions refer to the number of questions you expect to ask?

Well Bill, I guess that answer (which key locks/unlocks the door(s)) DOES depend on what year he is asking about. See my next post. I would edit it, but there is already too much editing going on.

                Joe -

The year icon on your post says 70-72, but the header says "67 judging questions", so I'll address '67.

Door locking is checked to verify function both locked externally with the key and locked internally with the lock knob. '67 was the first year for free-wheeling door locks, so that function is also checked (neither inside nor outside door handles should work with the door locked).

The (octagonal) door key inserts with the teeth pointing down, and the driver's side locks by turning the key clockwise, with the passenger side locking by turning the key counter-clockwise.

The glove box door and spare tire lock both use the same (round) key, and both are verified; in addition, a deduction is taken if the ignition/door key can be inserted in the spare tire lock cylinder (the keyways are different, and the spare tire lock cylinder must not admit the ignition/door key - universal replacement spare tire lock cylinders will admit both keys).

This subject is covered on page 19 in the 4th Edition '67 JG.

                  Re: 67 Judging Question

Terry, tx for the advice re editing. I am not very good when it comes to all of the ins, outs and functions available.

Re the 70 icon, we were hoping to complete the restoration on my 70 454 in time for the 10/11 Jenkintown meet. I had been posting alot of questions on that vehicle and got use to highlighting the 70 icon. Well on Tuesday 10/6 we realized we wouldn't be able to complete the car in time for the meet. I contacted the coordinator of the Jenkintown meet and was given permission to take one of my 67's as a substitute. As an aside there was a waiting list for the Shark models so someone else will be able to have their car judged in my spot. When I shifted gears and started asking questions about 67's my mind continued to think 70 and thus the 70 icon.

Now for my current dilemma, which icon should I use for this post?

                    Re: 67 Judging Question

I don't think you will be able to go back and change the 70-72 icon, but it would be worth doing if you can -- just for the archives. If you can't do it, it would be nice to ask one of the moderators to do it for you.

We all, includes me too, tend to think of these posts in the short term -- but they will live on perhaps beyond some of us. From that longer view future searchers would benefit from a consistent message.
