ethanol shouldn't be a problem if 10% or less, after 15% really bad things happen so say oil industry guys.

Well, just to keep the ole 56 FI happy, I bought another 11gal of 100LL Avgas while at the airport yesterday. $46.00!!! Oh well--------------

I have buddy in Sioux Falls SD, who is a commercial pilot and gets all the free 100LL he can use. As you probably know, fuel drained from an airplane cannot be reused in an airplane. The maintenance shops dump drained fuel into a couple of 55 gallon drums and various airport people use it for vintage cars, boats, lawnmowers, etc.

He has a '65 L-76 that is now a "327 LT-1" configuration with a true CR of about 10.5. With the local 92 PON mogas he has to run the initial timing at about 8-10. With at least 25 percent 100LL, he can advance it to 14-16. The distributor is OE with 24 @ 2350.

Thanks for all the information and discussion. After reading and researching the thread on aviation 100LL gas I have reached the conclusion to try a mix of the avgas with Shell Premium which I am told does not contain ethanol.

Unless your engine has been highly modified, you'll be wasting time, money and effort unnecessarily; you don't need 100LL avgas. Pump premium will work fine, and you may be able to move down from there.

I've been running regular pump gas in my '64 327/300 for 22 years with no problem with gaskets, leaks, etc using carb materials that are not special "ethanol compatible". 10% ethanol blend is not a problem.

My God, I've posted this twice before but can't seem to find it on the thread???? I have learned that the best fuel to place in a C1 that is rarely driven is 100LL aviation gas that does not deteriorate with time or separate. It is not easily obtained but I will get some for sure. I'll let you know how it goes.

Seems to me that the best solution is to put auto pump gas in the tank and drive the car more often thus stale fuel is not a problem.

Since no road tax is paid on LL100 we all need to send our road tax checks to Washington to pay for all the nice new programs the government is planning for us.

Not me, I subsidize far too much already! And, as decided, I am sticking with the 100LL gas for my 1960. It is not difficult for me to obtain and it is far better for the longevity of my beloved baby which I hope out lives me!
