Nice shot Joe. I ordered a new SA and waited 9 months until they told me they couldn't get it. L82 4sp with all options. I bet they resold it. Probably a good thing for me. Found a 63 FI coupe on a spud farm in southern Idaho and a 72 Coupe in Pocatello. Still have the 63 and drive it a lot.
    It's a good life!

The piper was actually an early in life trainer for my wifes cousin who later flew F16's

He did let me take the stick.

Not long after that picture was taken my wife was driving the car and hit a center median and blew out the left side tires..saying goodbye to the original GT's.

We ended up putting over 150,000 miles on that Pace Car, As I recall the only trouble we had was a cracked water outlet which I still have somewhere.

I worked downtown St.Louis and drove passed the closed St.Louis Corvette plant everyday.

Pace Car #541 if I remember correctly.

There was a local used car dealer that wanted the car from the time I bought it. He ended up buying a Pace car with only 4.7 miles on it and brought it on a trailer to show me. He later was about dead from cancer and showed up in front of my house in a limousine...on Easter Sunday. His associate knocked on my front door saying his boss wanted to buy my Pace Car right now.

I walked out and talked to the guy who was clearly not long for the world and he said Joe I always wanted your Pace Car and I would like to buy it right now.

I told him it had 150,000 miles on it now and was tired. He said me too but I want it.

He wrote a check and they drove off Limo and Pace Car.

I don't think he lasted another two weeks.

Just goes to show you the attraction of these cars.

Bill Lacy...do you remember the Elvis Presley Custom Corvette he had on the used car lot?
