It is going to be very difficult if the cluster is in the car. The cable exits the cluster at an angle I think it's toward the drivers door it's been a while I may have that wrong. If you remove the steering column it may be possible to get at it. I would also remove the drivers seat so you can lay on your back. It won't be a fun project.

Bob, the cluster is in the car. I'm going to try to have it done for the Killeen Regional, so if I can't get to it under the dash, I may forget it for now.

        Tim:
I had the same issue with my '65 when I bought it. With the driver's seat in, and with the steering column still in place, I was able to - finally - get the cable in and tightened. Don't ask me how I did it with nothing more than a coat hanger, a screwdriver, needle-nose pliers, determination, and luck. Could I do it again? Unlikely, nor would I want to try. Removing the steering column bracket would definitely help a lot. After my victory, I discovered why the cable wasn't installed in the first place. Although the odometer works, it won't reset (must be worn gears). This won't be fixed unless the cluster is restored one day. However, my cluster is pretty nice, so each time I fill the tank, I store the last mileage on the odometer on my cellular phone in the alarm. The alarm is set to ring on the weekends only as this is when I typically drive my Vette. It reminds me to check if I need gas, and the time it rings is the mileage at the previous fill-up. Sometimes you have to improvise !

        Good luck,
        Roger (50141)
