    KO Wheel Cone Removal

The cones on my repro KO wheels seem to be locked in place on the wheel. What is the best procedure to remove the cone so that neither the wheel nor the cone is NOT damaged? -Clark

The cones are 'attached' to the KO hub via self-adhesive backed foam. You have to pry gently but persistently to 'pop' them loose. The adhesive backed foam holds the cones in place so they don't fall off when you R&R the wheel + it thwarts 'rattling' noise during wheel rotation...

I've seen them siliconed or glued on too. Just take your time and see how they are attached and work them off slowly.

I have use some heat from a heat gun or hair drier. It will soften the adhesive and then gently pry.

          Clark,
Prying is a good way to damage the cone. Heat from a hot air dryer along with pressure from the back will do the job.
Use a round dowel (not your wife's broom handle!) that will fit through the drive pin holes on the back of the wheel. Cut the dowel at an angle so you have more surface area pressing aginst the back of the cone, now heat the front of the cone while tapping on the back of the cone with the dowel. Good luck. Bill
