since my car has a new gas tank and the original tank sticker must have gone with the old tank I'm guessing, is there anyway to tell what came with the car from the VIN#? For my Jag XK140 I was able to get the original heritage certificate from England showing the pretty much everything, even the first dealer and first owner. My 69 was built in November of 68 according to the VIN however the number on the motor indicates that the 350/350 presently in the car is dated October 69.

Re: 69 build sheet
You cannot tell the options on your car from the VIN. Perhaps you could post your VIN and engine number so we can take a look.Tom Hendricks

Re: 69 build sheet
I have heard of instances when people have found a broadcast sheet rolled up behind the dashboard. The broadcast sheet is like a tank sticker and would tell you what the car was delivered with. I have never found a broadcast sheet behind the dash of any C-3's.- Top

Re: 69 build sheet
I had checked the numbers on this car when I bought it quite a long time ago but forgot all the particulars. There's no question that the engine is not original however, is it possible that the original owner could have had a technical issue with the engine and it was replaced via warranty? My VIN # makes it a December 68 car. The motor VIN dervitive with a code of V11**HW, makes the engine November 69. Does anyone know if engines replaced under warranty ever had other designations?- Top

Re: 69 build sheet
Why do you think the "V11**HW" tells you it is assembled November 1969 rather than November 1968?
The cylinder case cast number and date would determine more, and might just tell you which year it was assembled in, but the assembly date will not tell you the year -- as far as I know -- but I'll say again WTFDIK.Terry- Top

Re: 69 build sheet
Jim,
If your engine displays a VIN derivative from another car, this cannot be either the original engine or a warranty replacement.
A typical stamp pad from a warranty replacemnt engine might display a CExxxxx type code.- Top

Re: 69 build sheet
Thanks Micahel, I was wondering if there would have been a special designation for a warranty replacement engine and sure sounds like there would have been. I lnow the history of this car back to the late 70's and the second owner so I'm guessing the first owner blew up the original motor and probably went to the wrecking yard and found a motor out of a wrecked 69. Or atleast something like that. Not having the original motor is not a big deal to me but it is kinda nice to atleast have one from the same year vette. Thanks to all who responded. jim- Top
