    Remember hiding a spare key??

While going over the very original 61 2 owner Corvette I purchased I was disturbed to look into the driver side fender well and see what appeared to be a chopped up harness to the headlights. Tape was unraveling from it so I decided to see what had been fixed. Much to my surprise, as I unraveled more tape, an ignition key fell into my hand. Checking it out, it glistened as new. When checking the knockout which was still in the key, I discovered the key number matched the original invoice. I checked with the previous owner of over thirty years and he knew nothing about it. It looks like the original owner must have placed the spare key there when new!. What a find!

Different make, but when I bought a used 79 MG Midget in 1986 there was a factory placed ignition key in a plastic bag attached to the tire side the front fenderwell.

Remember the "Hide-A-Key" (little metal box with a slide top and a magnet on the back)? Back in the day, I used to have one stuck on a bumper bracket, with a key in it wrapped in a piece of paper towel (so it wouldn't rattle).

I still use one on my daily driver.

I found keys taped to the upper top side of the spare tire tub on 66 red conv #374 that had been there probably at least 40 years a couple years ago when I dropped the tub to rebuild rear suspension. Original pair with zero wear or indication they had ever been used. Would have been pretty hard to access them in a pinch! Yep, they worked!
