Can someone help me determine how I should refinish my clutch cross shaft on a 1968. It appears that someone may have painted mine with some type of clear so I need to correct. Do you get them zinc plated? Thanks for any insight.

Re: 1968 Cross Shaft Finish
I think that originals were galvanized or electro-galvanized. However, this finish is very close to zinc plating, so I don't think that most would be able to tell the difference one way or the other.
The shafts were definitely not clear-coated.
If you have the shaft zinc-plated, you MUST ensure that it is properly annealed subsequent to plating. Otherwise, I can almost assure you that the welds at the lever arms will break in due course. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

to add to joe's comments, they are also a dull finish- bright but not shinny or polished.
