Calling all C-2 owners with A/C. I have a question

I would like to know if a service were to be offered for C-2 A/C car owners, to be able to buy a correctly dated set of A/C rubber hoses what kind of a responce there would be. These hoses would be dated for your car with the correct font/style and with all the other correct markings.

The reason I am asking is because I am finishing up the body of one of my customers cars and it is an A/C car, in fact the last 3 cars he has restored have been A/C cars. And he has come up with a way to put the correct markings on these hoses. If this is something that seems to draw interest it would be a service that he would advertise through the driveline.

It is not cheap to make up these hoses, so this is not something for everyone. Just for those who are trying to bring thier cars back as close as they can to how they were made.

In case anyone thinks I am posting this to make a buck off this I don't have any involvement other than to see if I can bring a neat never before provided service to the NCRS crowd.

Here are a few pictures of the set he did for his latest project. They are the hoses marked 11/32, 5/8 and 1/2.

Thanks in advance, Rich Pasqualone (49858)

    Rich:

I like what I see in the pictures. And I support having your friend provide this service for a fee for others in the hobby.

That being said, I do not see a large volume of business. There were not that many C2 AC cars to begin with. Then you subtract those that won't pay the extra money or are not having their car judged, then those who converted to 134a, then those (like me) that still have the original hoses which are in serviceable condition, and finally the AC cars that are no longer around due to accidents, rusting, etc.

But I welcome the service, and will try to help by talking it up to others not on NCRS if it becomes available.

    Thanks for posting.

    Larry

Rich, there is a major mid year vendor that used to make these correct dated AC hoses but lack of sales lead to their demise. so I did a little (lot) of playing around and made my own. the photo I show is for 66 and 67 I believe the larger numerals are for earlier mid years.

        Larry,

        Thanks.

        Craig,

Those look nice. One of my customers next cars to restore is a 67 400 with A/C and the original hoses have the same markings.
I understand that this is not a huge market but is something that could easily be done on a request basis. So volume is not a hinderance.

You can put me down for a set of hoses. I am now in the long process of Regional Top Flight, PV, and Duntov on my 1965 L76 A/C coupe. -Clark

            Rich,
I have to take another look at the 65 small block I want to get - if the A/C hoses are not correct I would be interested. Thanks, Ed

I am reading A/C hoses but looking at heater hoses for C-2's with A/C. Is this correct? Dale

Re: Calling all C-2 owners with A/C. I have a question

I just read this thread, and being as I had a C2 AC "repro" part issue not too long ago. I thought I would chime in a see what kind of thoughts others had on "my" part (and share my experience). I am a little interested in finding out from others if I should pursue this farther, or let it sit in the wings.
On the yearly trek to Bloomington last year (2008), I was with a "friend" (major player in the Corvette restoration business) who was working on a couple of midyear AC cars in his shop at the same time. He was looking for, and in the market for, at least one (and possibly two) of the air diverter boxes that are installed in the firewall. He had recently purchased one that was not in very good shape (very rusty) and paid BIG money for this with some of the other items needed for his restoraton. Word was out and he happened to "find one" at Bloomington. The guy wanted $5K for it. I could not believe that kind of money for that part, and after looking at it closely told him-"I can make one of these". Long story short I did. My first prototype was a little "rough", but 100% functional. So I got a spot welder and went to work on something nicer. I have made 3 (the prototype and two more). The two more turned out FABULOUS. Even though it is not something you can see, they are were almost flawless reproductions. They have BOTH since been installed in the cars that were being restored by my friend, and not only did they look good they work excellent. I purchased a 4x8 ft sheet of sheet metal for this, and currently have the material cut out for two more that I have yet to bend and assemble (didn't need them right away). Being the "dummy' that I am, I did not take any pictures of the ones that were used, but my prototype is in the garage. So, in the interest of reprodcution C2 AC parts-this thread made me wonder if anyone thought there might be a market for my part. I cannot imagine that I could sell 50 in my lifetime, but I have been told that they do rust out. Money is NOT my motivation (I received nothing for the ones I made), I do things like this sometimes, Just to see if I can.
This thread just made me think about those so I thought I would throw this out there.

                          Lynn,

I know that I have several more A/C cars to assist with the restoratin and would be interested in a few as I have one here to fix now that is rusted. Let me know.

                          Thanks. Rich

Sure thing Rich! I will dig out the prototype tomorrow, and either send you PM or post picture. I doesn't take long for me to one. Gets better and faster everytime. Haven't messed with it in awhile, but I just moved the box with everything the other day when I was looking for something else.
                            Thanks!!
