Don't expect a match. The correct size metal flake has NOT been available since 1964/5.

Thanks Loren I guess the flake was made by a magic wand I'll try to get some as close as I can, 2 or 3 hundred thousands bigger or smaller should work. Phil 8063

I remember trying to get Sebring Silver paint in the 80s at my Dupont Dealer. He called the factory and was told they originally used ground mother of pearl flakes, very special mix that would be big bucks to duplicate exactly then. WEll, plan 'B' was used with close looking flakes. Good hunting!

Re: Does anybody have a 63 sebring silver

I talked to a guy at a Bloomington paint workshop in 1990 and he was telling me of a SWC that was painted with "NOS" Sebring Silver paint someone (and somehow) salvaged from the '60's.
Even at that time, the story seemed incredible. Maybe someone knows this car???

Seems that it may have been part of the Bloomington Special Collection.

Re: Does anybody have a 63 sebring silver

That car would be Dr. Vance Shappley's 63 Sebring Silver with a red interior ZO-6 big tank.

Actually he found a quart of Dupont factory pack Sebring Silver at Bloomington back when there was a Bloomington in Bloomington. We both reached for the can and he beat me to it!

Marty Fowler painted the car with silver Dupont Lacquer and finished it with the original Dupont factory pack Sebring Silver.

Probably the ONLY 63 in the world with original Dupont Sebring Silver paint.

                JR

PS. And you will NEVER duplicate that paint, so quit wasting your time.

Thanks to all so far. I've found out from PPG that getting sebring silver is no prolbem at all, can get as much as I want, BUT its only available in laquer. I still would like an example of a original panel to tint to. Thanks for looking ! Phil 8063

Michael Hanson and I tried getting some in Chicago in the early eighties, I'm sure he remembers the meeting better than I do because they wanted huge quantity orders to do it.

I think only Dupont made it because it was trade marked "Fire Frost",
which was used only on Cadillac and 63 Corvettes with the optional sebring silver color.
I've only seen 1 one gallon can and 2 quart cans of factory pack sebring silver since 1970 and all were Dupont.
As far as I know it was not available except in factory packed cans because retailers who mixed paint were never sold the special flakes/pigments.
                    Hope this helps,Bob

Thanks Bob, Iam told to use this number/code 17 something or other, then tint it to the color I want, this stuff has the same two size flakes I need. THATS why I need an example of the color. DO you know anyone that may be able to help me with an example of the color. Thanks Phil 8063

Hi Phil, I never used /opened my gallon of factory pack.
Maybe Joe Ray can put you in touch with Marty Fowler since he is the person who actually painted Vance's factory pack.

I think you're going to end up using a color matched mixed paint to an original Sebring silver test panel, just like I did 29 years ago.
That will get you close but it will never be exact because it will always lack the Fire Frost flake/pigment. I remember reading bullitens to painters telling them if a Sebring silver car comes in for spot repair to repaint the entire car if an acceptable match could not be made. Good Luck, Bob

                            Phil,

Don't understand what your talking about when you say "BUT its only available in lacquer".

Marty used every drop of that original factory pack Sebring Silver on Vance's 63 ZO-6.
