Re: Does anybody have a 63 sebring silver

Phil, uncertain about now but some years ago "House of Color" duplicated some long lost colors that used small flakes of pearl and fish scales. It was expensive. If all else fails they or another custom supplier might work. Sebring Silver is a beautiful color.

    Good Luck!

I think only Dupont made it because it was trade marked "Fire Frost",
which was used only on Cadillac and 63 Corvettes with the optional sebring silver color.
I've only seen 1 one gallon can and 2 quart cans of factory pack sebring silver since 1970 and all were Dupont.
As far as I know it was not available except in factory packed cans because retailers who mixed paint were never sold the special flakes/pigments.
      Hope this helps,Bob
Jorjorian, I thought it was called "Fire Mist"??? JD

I just remembered back in the 70s a guy told me about RM having a mixing formula for Sebring silver, turned out the RM formula was the exact same formula as 64 Satin silver...so no cigar on that tip.Bob

Yup, I well remember our discussion with Dupont and when he said "quantity, I asked what quantity might be. He said rail car load. Other than that, they weren't at all interested.
He also went on to say that some of the ingredients were "very special" and even then, (80's) may not be available.

If someone found a unique paint code for Dupont Sebring silver, (pretty easy to do because the code is right in the parts book) and thinks it's going to result in genuine Sebring silver, they're going to be disappointed. The code is listed as 867-96417 for Sebring silver. (different than the 940 code for 64 Satin silver)
I've seen the Dupont 867-96147 on many 63's and it definitely NOT the same as OEM assembly line Sebring silver or the rare original qt/gal sold in 63.

Even NOS quarts/gallons of Sebring silver may not be exactly the same material that was used on the assembly line. The color tints and flake may be the same but the binder/clear will be different. The few small quanties (quarts/gallons) of Dupont Sebring silver that were floating around from 1963 may be some of the ONLY true factory pack paint ever available to the general public for any color.

None of the colors/paints (any year or color lacquer) are the same as what was used in production. Not even factory pack. Completely different stuff.

We had a quart of DuPont lacquer mixed locally in the late '80's. Spot painted the rear deck on an original car. Was an extremely close match. The painter that did my work was one of, if not the best at tinting and spot painting I have ever seen.
