Correct, and that is where the story comes full circle. When Lincoln got into trouble, Henry Ford acquired the company, effectively getting revenge for Leland`s bail out of Fords first company.

There are a lot of interesting stories like this out there. The leaders of these companies were very intertwined.

I thought the man who died as a result of being hit in the jaw (resulting in gangrene) by the car's crank starter was Byron Carter, who produced the Cartercar. Interesting car as it had a friction drive like an older Snapper lawnmower. The assets of the Cartercar company were eventually purchased by GM (W.C. Durant) and maybe this is why Carter was considered a GM employee.

It was Carter, a close friend of Leland, not a GM employee. He died a few weeks later from complications. Could have been gangrene.

So...does anyone know how Cadillac got its name, that is, what does it mean, where did it come from, etc?

I'm just asking - have no clue. (But this is kind of fun.)

              Re: Quiz

Cadillac was named after the French explorer who founded Detroit, Antoine de Cadillac. Glad Davey Crockett didn't found Detroit, they'd probably have called it the Crock...
