Who sells the most "like original" carpet?

    Hello Friends,

Who sells the most "like original" carpet for my 1970. I know I need 80/20 loop, no dimmer pad, IMCO logo. Anything else to look for?

My understanding is there is no 'perfect' reproduction for this carpet. Further, the source that touts itself as being 'correct' due to their IMCO emboss on the heel pad is actually incorrect due to the size, font and placement of that emboss.

This suggests the only way to get full credit during judging is with some ingenuity and elbow grease: Purchase anyone's carpet then hand modify it to conform by 'transplanting' a lightly used, real McCoy original heel pad and making applicable 'mods' as required.

One area that's often cited as being incorrect on reproduction carpet is the treatment of outer corners in the rear panel section of convertibles. Factory originals are known to a top edge that 'angles' down to provide clearance around the decklid hinge while reproductions are straight across in this area resulting in interference...

        Pat -

If you aren't already on Social Security/Medicare, you will be by the time any carpet from Romeo Engineering arrives at your door.

Agree with John. Just do a search on Romeo. I think that you will get a better understanding of what he is saying.

There must have been a change in business practices. Last year I ordered some carpet from Romeo and it was on my porch in less than 2 weeks.

Re: Who sells the most "like original" carpet?

              Hi,
I bought carpet for my 71 from Romeo a few years ago. It was quite a challenge getting it. It was always going to be ready to ship "this week". I did finally get it.
The IMCO logo on the heel pad was noticeably larger and in a slightly different position than my original. I took my old pad off and put it on the new carpet.
The rear bulkhead (coupe) carpet was cut and bound differently than my original so I found someone local to do the modification.
I found the carpet it's self to be quite similar to my original, some other manufacturer's carpet seems a bit too nice.
              Regards,
              Alan

I oredered Romeo Engineering carpet for my 71. Came with the carpet too short on the left rear side of the transmission tunnel. I have judged several cars with the same problem and the owners have tried to "fill in" the area with a patch. Pretty easy to spot and I always know where they bought their carpet.

Well, at least you guys got SOMETHING from Romeo. I tried several times to get a catalog and the advertised samples, but never ever heard from them. No response.

great to know, saves some hassle down the road. (not like I'm running low of any headaches otherwise).

Al Knoch generally sells good stuff, so I got a new carpet set for my '67 from them. They must have been having a bad day in El Paso, because the curved areas of the carpet panels I got were WAY too fat and puffy. Never did like the fit. It has that polyethylene back, so wetting the back with hot water or using a hair dryer doesn't seem to do any good to "shrink" it to conform to the body.

So about a year later, I got a complete set from Wilcox Corvette, who gets them from Corvette America, who gets them from ACC. Man, this set fit like a glove and I'm very pleased with it. Even though the carpet is manufactured by ACC, I got it for about half the price from Wilcox. PT

I used ACC about 8 years ago, fit & color were good and still look good.
