    D - 106 HP Points

I have bricks (boxes) of Delco-Remy points D-106P, D-106PS, and D-106HP part #1948671. I know the application for D-106P and D-106PS but I cannot find anything in my books about D-106HP. It definitely looks like a heavy-duty or high-performance point. Can anyone help me with the identification of the D-106HP point set part #1948671.

I can find no PRODUCTION applications for the D106HP, aka GM #1948671, contact set. This is also consistent with the fact that I cannot find that it was ever available through the GM parts system. However, it does date back to the late 60's, if not even earlier. Apparently, it was a SERVICE-only contact set available through the Delco parts system. It may also have been for a non-GM application but, if so, I cannot find it among any common application. More likely, it was a SERVICE-only piece designed for aftermarket-type, "high performance" use. Just how it functionally differed from the D106P I do not know.

It was discontinued in the early 80's and replaced by GM #1949838 and, later, by GM #12338659. The latter is the currently available Delco contact set which also replaced the D106P and the D112P.

      Hi Michael,

To add to what Joe's mentioned, I suggest you perform a search for "D106HP points" in Google or whichever search engine you prefer and you'll see a number of references from vendors, eBay sellers, and bulletin boards. You'll obviously need to wade through it all and make your own judgments about what makes sense and what's speculation.

Pay particular attention to the posts in the following thread as they seem to get into considerable detail:

      Good luck!

Joe, I seem to vaguely remember that they were marketed to fleets and commercial operators as a HD point set. I am thinking that we stocked them when I worked the parts counter at the local IH dealer.

          Re: D - 106 HP Points

Louis thank you for directing me to a Camaro Forum. They described the D-106 HP point set as a larger (moving) contact pad, had a hole in the other cantact pad to prevent "air-bounce" at high RPM, contact faces were plated with Platinum to prevent pitting and increase service life in "HD" applications, and they were used with the High RPM Profile Cam ( as used in the Z-28 distributors) were good to over 8,000 RPM with no spark scatter. That is good stuff!
I wonder, if these points are so good why not many people know about them. As Joe and I said we don't have any reference to this point set. I usually use a set of Accel or Echlin points (which are the same set) but now I will use the Delco-Remy D-106 HP set.
