      Dale,
I think you will have to ask that of the "help desk" -- see the sticky at the top of the page. I don't think changing the dealer code entries is something mere mortals can do.

        Re: Documentation discussion: Mid Year

        Hi John:

When I bought my 62 from the original owner, I asked if I could record the conversations I had with him. He had no problem with it, I was able to play it back and put it in print.

Also, the 62 had the key number on the dealer copy after the car was built and it was typed on the warranty book by the dealer.

I have the original invoice on my 61 and it has the key code on the invoice. This was apparently a Chevrolet approved invoice since I have seen the same form from other dealers.

The MSO is a really neat document, amoung other things, it shows the date the car went through the closest distribution point to the end dealer which was in my home town, Jacksonville, FL. Was lucky that someone in the 1980's asked the State for the history and the State sent back EVERYTHING! These documents came with the car. That was how I was able to locate the original owner. As a matter of fact the original owners wife was the title clerk at the Dealership, Jim Rathman Chevrolet in Melbourne, FL, the Cape area. The original owner actually worked at the Cape as an engineer. Rathman was known to give the Astronauts vettes to promote them, so I am told.

Thanks to everyone for their comments!
Also engine displacement size can be determined from the MSO.

            Steve,

Can you tell me how the displacement is listed on the MSO. I will look this evening when I get home. Thanks.

              John,
You can tell the displacement by the HP listed on the MSO. I believe that 57 was for a 427. I seem to remember reading this from a very knowlegdable member here.

                Re: Documentation discussion: Mid Year

Steve, I have a section on the MSO that says:

                H P (SAE) 57.8 Shipping weight 3294 lbs.

So the 57.8 means 427. Why 57.8?? Does anyone know?

How about the weight, where can find weight for an L36 cpe? Noland Adams has a 327 cpe with 3 speed at 3155 lbs.

                  John -

                  That's SAE "taxable" horsepower.

                  327's and 350's are 51.2

                  396's are 53.6

                  427's are 57.8

The formula is bore squared x no. of cylinders, divided by 2.5.

Any source you can refer me to on the weight of the various 67 vettes, cpe, conv, 327, 427 combinations?

Weights for C3 Corvettes with various options are in the front pages of the AIM (Assembly Instruction Manual). I would expect C2s to be the same, but WTFDIK.

Unfortunately, 1967 and earlier AIM's don't have it.

                          Gosh, how primitive.

I guess that should teach me to stay out of mid-year discussions.

Weights, including all the +/- deltas for options, are in the free Restoration package, which includes the AMA specifications, available from Chevrolet at (800) 222-1020. They'll ask for your year and VIN.

                              John,

It looks like the price of the free restoration package has gone up. Now it's $50.00. I called the number you listed, they directed me to the following web site:

GM Heritage Archive is GM's global repository of historical photography, motion picture film, video, digital media, and vehicle documentation.

I went ahead and ordered the "Vintage Vehicle Information" package from the web site. They also gave a phone number of 800-462-5543 ext. 163, which I did not try.

                                Joe -

Thanks for the update - Chevrolet used to pay a contractor (MSX Corp.) to handle this, and they have apparently decided to charge for it, using Allied-Vaughn as the new contractor, through the GM Heritage Center.

Allied-Vaughn has handled copies of Dealer Wholesale Invoices for all 1977-up Corvettes for several years (for $50.00), and now both services have apparently been consolidated.
