I am in the process of replacing the door locks and assemblies on my '60. At the moment, I am trying to remove the rod that connects at the top to the lock cylinder and at the bottom to the lock mechanism. I have managed to free the top, but have not been able to free the bottom from the little clip. How have others managed to to free this rod from the clip? Thanks in advance.

Re: C1 Door lock clip
Steve,
Thanks, but the end of the rod is not threaded. Clip is actually is actually a small piece of wire. It is part number 281085 in Corvette Central's catalog. The clip looks like it is part of the lock mechanism lever.- Top

Re: C1 Door lock clip
If I remember correctly, the clip just snaps over the rod. Since it has not been moved in a long time, it may just be stuck. I would spray some lube on it, wrapping a rag around it first to catch the over spray. After it soaks for a while, try pushing out on the long vertical length of the clip. As you are pushing out, wiggle it back and forth. The clip should swing away from the rod.
Good Luck.

Re: C1 Door lock clip
It looks like a very early style rod clip ! They went from wire to sheet metal rod clips in the mid 60's and placky in the 70's. It should just push off it's on a hinge type swing arm clip.Keep pushing it should pop. like Dennis said give it a spray and let it sit over night. Stewy- Top

Frank:
Here's a picture of the rod and the clip. The rod has a groove that the clip retains both top and bottom. (The rod comes through from behind the pictured side of the clip.) I show a screwdriver prying the clip to release the rod. I found I had to pry the top of the clip, roll the rod to keep the top disengaged and then release the bottom. It's a pain!
