Good discussion that mentions the use of thin versions as service parts. In other words, mid-year bumper brackets were "thin 64-67 versions" when acquired as service parts at the dealer.

However, I seem to have some thick ones in my NOS bumper mounting bracket (brace) bin. Does anyone think the thick (1/4 inch) versions were sold for service also.

Numbers in the prior discussion are 3797337-8 (Thick) and
3848218-9 (Thin). The discussion was focused on "front outer" braces.

I think I understand now that all service brackets were thin. Not a full 1/4 inch thick.

Tom, I bought a set from a original burned 63 along with the power steering. I recall the outer front brackets thick and the brackets thru the grill not as thick.

I can't recall if they looked as thin 1/8" as the GM service replacements I have seen over the years. I can look again and take pics if that will help..
