    Ready for Paint

After several years of restoration, she is ready for paint. L79 66 Roadster. Original motor, matching numbers (drive train) and most other parts, not replaced over 250,000 miles of driving. Owned it for 40 years. New sneakers on her today.

Will be ready for my 7,000 mile trip next year. If you want me to stop by, (Doing research on owners who have had their car for 30 + years) let me know. Pictures taken today, not many days like this left in Maine. You don't have to own your car for 30 years, I am trying to get to all 48 states, so don't be shy, if you have a corvette, I will stop by if possible. I am planning route now , so............

Good luck on your adventure! My sisters' in-laws had a similar goal...49 states in their '49 Ford. They made it and guess which state they skipped? I'll give a hint...you can't get there by land...

      Hi Jack,
I enjoyed your pictures. I don't see shingles weathered to that blend of colors except in Maine. (I'm thinking a combination of lack of pollution and lots of salt air).
Perhaps my 71 is a candidate for your research. We're in Maryland, near Gettysburg Pa.
      Regards,
      Alan

I have a picture of both of us the week I got the car. It looks pretty much the same..... I don't.

Your on my list. I will be coming up the east coast on my way back to Maine.

I want to head west first (August) , Western New York, Penn, Ohio, and rest of Mid-west. Across Rockies Sept, Oregon and North west, down west coast, across south west, mid south, south , Fla, south east coast, mid-atlantic, zig zaging all the states. New York metro, and ending back in New England in Nov.

I want to document the love story of Corvette owners and their cars.
        Might make an interesting read.

That sounds like a fun trip. I'm sure you will see a lot of very interesting cars. My '59 has been with me for over 40 years now. We are in the far NW corner of Ohio. Steve Brohard in Texas has had his '57 a few years longer than I. He used to be a local guy here too when we were much younger.

I will put you on my list. My first corvette was a 61. $900 used in 1969. The engine blew up on me, and of course we did what every one did at the time. Put a 327 in. The cars were not legends at the time and it was cheaper to put a new engine in then to fix the old one. Unfortunately , the carb was taller and I drove it around the block to the auto supply to get a low profile air cleaner. Didn't make it, car backfired and dumped gas on engine and caught fire and melted. Got $1,000 insurance and bought the 66 for $2,100. The rest is history.

              Jack,

Will you be coming through St. Louis? I can show you a 66 in very bad need of paint. When was yours built? Mine is a May of 66 car. I've only owned it since 2005, but I inherited it from my uncle. He bought it used in 68 or 69. So it has been in the family for a long while. Maybe we could stop by Ted Drewe's for some frozen custard. Are you planning a Route 66 trip as well? Ted Drewe's is on Route 66.

It's amazing what a new pair of sneakers will do for the

How could I miss St. Louis. Yes, I am sure that riding on Rt. 66 would be part of the love story of men and woman and their Corvette. I fell in love with the car in the show on TV, and my first Corvette was a 61 stock 283, white with black interior. It cost $900 in 1969 , unfortunately , it caught fire and melted. Got $1,000 from insurance and bought the 66 Roaster for $2,100 , $43 dollars a month loan. Big dollars to a 22 year old. Well the rest is history...still have the car... still have the yearn for adventure. This trip and the stories to hear will make a great read and the passing of information from one generation to another.

She looks great Jack. What color are you painting it? Original color?
I would love to come see you and the car when it gets done.
I have decided to use Carl to do my block but first I am going to pull the motor and check it over so I know what I will be dealing with for the rebuild. It comes out this week hopefully.
Your trip sounds great and especially the book. I'll take a copy for sure. I love to hear stories of people and their love affairs with their cars. I hang out at Classic Convertibles in Freeport and get to talk with lots of the customers and everyone of them has a story about their early cars. I could write a book about that too! Have fun on your trip.
We got a nice Corvette in today at Classic. Monza Red '69 427/390hp 4 speed car. 90k miles with T-Tops. Pretty nice shape. I'll attach a picture.
Let me know when yours is painted and I'll come see it.
