Hi all,
I recently moved and was talking to a new neighbor on his front porch and happened to notice a 1965 Corvette sitting behind his house with 32K original miles! I asked him to show it to me. It is a Glen Green with Saddle Tan hardtop/convertible and he has the original engine in the barn. Problem is that it has been sitting in the same spot OUTDOORS since 1975!!! The tires are long since flat and the wheels are sinking into the ground. The hardtop has moss and lichen, yes LICHEN, growing on it. There are little plants growing from the cracks around the hood and deck lid and there are sprouts growing from the carpet!!! I.e., it looks like the perfect restoration candidate for me!!! He told me he wants to restore it "one day." I told him that the lichen is a sure indication that this is not likely to happen
But my concern is the birdcage. I am a C1 guy. If I manage to get this car, what should I look for to make sure sure that when I go for PV that the doors don't simply drop off from rust??
Bob
PS: I have also located another '65 convertible with at least p/s that looks green, but is actually maroon and has sat on a carport since 1989, so the green is algae or something. And I also have located yet ANOTHER '65 convertible, yellow with white interior, with sidepipes, tele wheel, 327/300, wiht p/s and p/b that is in a yard with a tarp partially over it and one door lying on the ground. Neither wants to sell. But, what is it about '65 convertibles that makes people want to leave them to decay?!!!!!
