It's not an error-----both the 1111156 and 1111196 once existed. The 1111156 was discontinued in October, 1967 and replaced by the 1111196. That would imply that both distributors are close enough in spec to be functionally "interchangeable".

I’m trying to understand what changed between the ’66 (1111156) and ’67 (111196) non-K66 L-79 distributors......
Still more curious, is the fact the ’66 and ’67 K-66 L-79’s both apparently used the same 1111157 distributor.

The ’67 JG and Chevy Service manual both indicate 1111196 for the ’67 non-K66 distributor....

Bob -- I've gone over many of the same numbers and sources that you have (except the '66 Chev service manual), NCRS Pocket Guide and even the Delco Test Spec Supplement DR-324S-2, and I agree that there is negligible difference in the points distribs '156' and '196'. All three (incl. the K66 "157") have the 236 vac can, and since the centrif. advance curves are the same for the points units, leads to believe that the rotating weight advance plate and "football" numbers are the same.

I have a service "157" [4-K-9] and without dismantling the shaft, can see the bottom of the rotating weight plate (star wheel) is stamped '534 CCW' (different of course from the points plates); nothing on the top of the football (which MIGHT have been the same among all 3 units).

In SERVICE, the '196' replaced the "156" in 10-67. So, more info but not much help in answering your original question .
