    70 L46 Tach Cable / shielding

Well I am coming down the home stretch with spark plug wires and shielding install.

How does the tach cable fit around the driver's side vertical shield and wires? Seems like a really tough fit. I did not have any shielding other than the mounts attached to the intake when I purchased the car.

    Thanks,

    Bill

Oh Boy. Could the cable be too long? What is the correct length?

I have a spare and I think the one in the car is too long.

What is more likely is you have installed the distributor off one tooth. All too often people will install a distributor on a C3 oriented like on a C2. Bad idea. The tach cable will kink and the vacuum advance can will hit the distributor shield mounting bracket.

We printed instructions for the difference twice in The Corvette Restorer. Once before 1999 and once after.

Also check the distributor gear there is a dimple in the side of the distributor gear . When mounted on the distributor shaft the dimple and rotor contact should be aligned if not you will always be 1 tooth off. Due to odd number of teeth on the gear. Paul 18046

If the distributor and intake are original they were staked when assembled to orient to each other. You'll find the matching marks at the 12 o'clock-ish position at the base of the distributor and intake mounting surface

I am really confident I have the distributor in correctly.

What is tight is where the cable comes through the firewall past the chrome vertical spark plug wire shield. I changed out the cable to an original that was a little shorter than the repro. It helped a little. Still a really tight squeeze with all the vacuum hoses and stuff on the driver's side.

Should the cable also be held in the clip along the firewall.

If nothing else at least I have the correct tach cable now
