New Member with a 68 coupe

    Hello all.
I'm new to the corvette world. I now have a 1968 coupe. It is a driver and just about everything works on the car. The car is not 100%, but I think its a good start. I have all ready found some items that are not correct, just by reading through the discussion boards. They are great. I am very weary of changing things untill I'm shure they are correct for the car. Would going to the kissimmee meet in Jan, and having the car juged be a good start. Or should I just go and check out the show.

Welcome Brett, I would suggest you get the Corvette Technical Information manual and judging Guide for the 68, you can purchase it and other books at the NCRS store, see link at the top of the screen. Also the book by M.F. Dobbins helped me a lot during my restoration. There is a wealth of information on this Board, so don't be afraid to ask.
Again, welcome and maybe you could post a picture or two of your car

      Hi Brett !

Welcome. You can find a local chapter to have your car judged at. That would be a great place to start. 68's are kind of an unusual car. Kind of like the 63's. Many things are unique. Take it to the judging field and get a good base line and go from there. Enjoy the car and stick around here.

This is a good group that is always willing to help.

          Brett,

Welcome! It always good to hear from another '68 owner.

You are wise to have the car "gone over at a meet" before you start on the restoration process. However, someone correct me if I'm wrong, I don't think you can register for a Regional unless you have had the car judged at a Chapter Meet in the past 3 years with a score of at least 3rd flight. You can find Chapter meet dates and registration forms in the Driveline

            Hi Brett,
I'm not a 68 owner but would still like to say hello!
It sounds like you're going to be enjoying your new Corvette. I'll second the suggestion to join a Chapter if there's one in your area.
Two other publications you may well find interesting and informative are the AIM (ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTION MANUAL) and the GM CHASSIS SERVICE MANUAL for you 68. Both are available from the NCRS store.
            Have Fun!
            Regards,
            Alan

Best plan might be to approach your local chapter to see what they've got coming up. Get hold of all the books and read, read, read. Attend a show or two and see how the judging works. Step forward and ask to judge or be an observer judge. Learn what to expect and not to expect.

I'm not sure that an 'unprepared' owner and his car showing up at a Regional is the best idea. You'll get a ton of great info thrown at you but it might be too much to be absorbed first time out.

Not true Terry. One can have their Corvette Flight Judged at a Regional with NO prior requirements. There are prior requirements for Flight Judging at a National Convention, however.

Not all Chapter meets are advertised in The Restorer, and there is no requirement that a chapter advertise their meet. That is an added reason to join a local chapter.

Thanks for the correction, Terry. I confused the PV with a previous 3rd Flight reguirement. As for the Chapter not advertising in the Driveline, I guess they could place their date on the NCRS Website Calendar for some limited exposure. I doubt they get many judges outside their Chapter if they don't advertise in the Driveline, however.

Thanks for the info. I will check out the local chapters. I'm here in southwest FL, near Port Charlotte. I have a hundred questions about how to fix several issues, so i'll be around often.
My car has a 327 300hp auto. Lemans blue with bright blue inter. I will try and post some picks later.
                      Thanks again.
