C3 Window Rattle

I have a 71 coupe with Power Windows. When the driver's side window is down - all is quiet. When it's up & I'm driving along there's a rattle coming from deep within the door. I can't quiet it by applying pressure to the top of the door panel where it meets the window.

So, before I pull it all apart, I'm asking for some sage advice from those that have already been there. What are the most likely causes?

Tom,

Check the lower window track mounts and stops. They have pressure on them when the window is down put none when it is up.

Also, be sure that all the bolts are tight. I had a similar problem, even replaced the regulator, then figured out it was all because one of the other bolts was loose.

And if you are going inside the door, you might as well check the felt pads that guide the glass.
If they look a bit crusted, they can be cleaned up.
I did mine with some mineral spirits and a brass wire brush; making sure that they are dry before reinstalling.

Tom,

Is your car Brands Hatch Green like mine?

All of the above is good info, just to add that there are white plastic
buttons that snap into the door glass at the bottom front.

Ever notice when the window comes all the way up you get a small
bulge in the door panel, like it took a deep breath? That's the contact
that keeps the lower edge stable and taut.

If the windows have ever been replaced they may not have been installed. If you remove the door panel and see a mushroom like button lying in the bottom of the door, like I did, that may be your answer. Good luck!

Mine is BH Green/Dk Saddle-apparently a popular color that yr.
