Re: A/C muffler
A significant percentage of Chevrolet part drawings show at least one "optional construction", sometimes more than one, to get secondary suppliers on board or to accommodate a supplier's existing tooling and facilities instead of spending tooling money for a supplier to incorporate a feature not essential to function or installation. In those cases where an "optional construction" is shown, the Assembly Manual will only show the initial released design, and the illustration still may not be accurate to the details of the part print - it's just an illustration, not a part drawing.
I worked in the department that handled those negotiations between suppliers and release engineers (Chevrolet Production Engineering) for about a year, so I'm familiar with the process.

. Assembly Manuals are handy, but they're not like Jepp charts
