Re: The strangest thing you found while restoring your car

IN 1981 i purchased a 65 coupe black on black 365hp side exhaust car, on the under side of the gas filler cap there was a beautiful air brush painting of a male jeannie smoking a big fatty joint, i wish i would have saved that or had a photo.

About 5 years ago while working on a 64 Coupe at a friends body shop, I opened the glove box and found 4 sticks of dynamite attached to a timer with wires. What the he** do I do now.
Finally gently moved it and found out it was fake.
We added a few hundred bucks to the bill for the bad joke.

Also while trying to find a paint code in the trunk of a Camaro I found a dozen pictures of the owner and his girl friend NUDE. I didn't look at them....

Not during a restoration, but many years ago while judging the interior of a '72 Coupe at the old Cypress Gardens Meet I found a loaded .38 cal pistol behind the quarter trim panel. I'll never forget the look on the old couple's faces who were showing the car. They had just recently purchased the car and had no idea that the gun was there. At least, thats what they told me.

I bought a 74 convertible off a used car lot and found a roll of Silver Dollars wedged in the Battery compartment. Car is Gone ..but still have the Silver Dollars.

Bought a 57 and got a box of extra parts that I didn't look at for a year. Included was an NOS L88/435 complete smog pump system take off which I sold at Bloomington at the 1988 L88 get together.

In '64 when I bought my '57 the previous owner, Max, told me he would give me some "extra stuff". I got two WCFB rebuild kits, new window channels for both sides, and a new pair of rear springs. I still have 'em. The carb kits are in the black and gold GM packaging.

In '65 I wandered into the local Chevy dealer's shop, Maxton Motors in Butler, IN (RIP). There on Bill's lift was a new '65 Milano Maroon coupe, maroon leather, FI, 4 speed, off-road exhaust, and KO's with Michigan plates. It was beautiful. When the lift came down I looked inside and behind the driver's seat was a new Shelby Cobra sales brochure.

Re: The strangest thing you found while restoring your car

My local buddy here in town who has a serious collection of cars recently showed me a super nice nickel plated handgun with holster he found under the seat of a C5 he bought. Can't believe someone would look before they sell.

              Cheers,
              Craig
