I have searched the archives and cannot locate the proper way to refinish the gas cap on my 1967. Is is a repaint process, if so what brand and finish type? Or is a plating? Thank you, Gary

Re: C-2 gas cap finish - restoration
Hey Gary. They are plated, not painted. I have an NOS one in the box with an original paper gasket and it's plating is still perfect. I also have the original one still on my car and it looks nice. There are a bunch of advertisers in the Driveline that do replating. Check them out. One name that comes to mind is Richard Fortier. I purchased a few top ignition shileding bolts replated from him and was very pleased. Hope this helps. Good luck and Happy Holidays. ARA- Top

It would be zinc plated. You can buy a plating set up to do it yourself or send it out for replating. Just search the archives for zinc plating or caswell plating. There's lots of info on the process. Somewhere in the archives from a few years back I posted the process including pics of disassembly, replating, and reassembly.- Top
