    Re: T-10 Transmission search

According to my newly received (thank you Santa!) Manual and Judging Guide, section 30B Manual Transmission, it is.
But that is not why I am searching for the original transmission. I am a stickler for originality in any restoration that I do. However, this one particularly is important to me as it is a tribute to my brother and his life and accomplishments. I know if he were here, he would appreciate the effort to restore his vette to as close to original as possible. I realize I am looking for a needle in a haystack and may have to settle for a resonable faximaly as close as I can get, but one never knows until one asks, so I usually ask, even if it seems a foolish question. My dad always said, the best answer to any question is a good education, and I certainly am getting that in my quest for originality on this car.

        Re: T-10 Transmission search

Tranny numbers are definitely checked during Bowtie judging when the car is on the lift for safe under carriage visibility. During normal Flight, it's a matter of what the judges can see conveniently/easily. It's not hard to spot a car that was originally T-10 equipped wearing a later Muncie tranny...

Beyond that, it's really a matter of the specific judges you pull for chassis and what their specific sphere of knowledge is. But, there is no specific check box on Flight Score sheets for tranny component cast numbers, casting dates and/or VIN derivative stamping.

Joe the phone number you gave me appears to be a fax number. Could you check it please?
          Thanks

          And who is Eddie Wass?

Commonly known as "Rusty Eddie" for all the rusty junk he sells; I'd look elsewhere.

I'll second that nomination!!!!! Unless of course you want pain (or rusty junk) and less money in your pocket!!!!!!

                    David,

Did you talk to Darrell at Pipers? I know we are not supposed to recommend anyone but I would be surprised if you had any problems with his work.

I'll put "Rusty Eddie" on the "do not call list"! Thanks.

I did call Darrell and had a good chat with him. He actually has the tranny that I could use for $2395 and I probably should jump on it, however I have lots of feelers out and wanted to wait a bit to see if anything else surfaces. I am still researching what happened to the original one from the car and have some leads on that.

                      Thanks again all.

There is usually a guy at the swap meet who parks his pickup next to the Comfort Suites that sells restored transmissions.

Well, as tempting as Florida sounds right now, its 11 degrees here, I wont be able to jet off to the meet.
However, if anyone is going to be there and would care to get the gentlemans name and phone or email, I would get in touch with him about it afterwards.
                            Thanks for the tip.

David, Enclosed is a linked to a Craigslist add for a T10 that is date correct, but will need to have replace wide ratio gearing for close ratio. I have no affiliation to the seller... just happen to read your post and did a quick search.

                                David,

Think you better check the date a little closer than the seller from Craigs List. Looks like it's a year earlier than he thinks. Cast iron case in 1960 is correct.
