Re: most hateful c-1 resto chore
All C1s? After working with resin and mat, I would say none of the above...Whoever had to hand lay those subfloors and body panels has my vote. That poor sucker must have been so glad to strip off those sticky clothes and gloves that he was happy to just go home to his wife and child monsters.which assembly line worker had the worst job in building the 53 to 57's? the poor fella that extended the clutch return spring? the dude adjusting the 4 speed shifter? the guy dropping the radiator down in the core support? my vote goes to the poor yahoo assigned the job of putting nuts on the windshield posts up in that hellish dogleg area above the courtesy lites. bet he stopped at the local tavern every nite after work. mike- Top

You are absolutely right. Why they didn't drill an access hole like they did for the doors..I will never understand.which assembly line worker had the worst job in building the 53 to 57's? the poor fella that extended the clutch return spring? the dude adjusting the 4 speed shifter? the guy dropping the radiator down in the core support? my vote goes to the poor yahoo assigned the job of putting nuts on the windshield posts up in that hellish dogleg area above the courtesy lites. bet he stopped at the local tavern every nite after work. mike
This one assembly process is enough to drive a person insane.
Of course trying to install a 53-55 convertible top as a one person project is a close second.( and yes you mentioned it...the stupid clutch return spring ).
For those who have not tried these and have not turned 50 or 60...just wait.- Top

Re: most hateful c-1 resto chore
Mike...PS..there is no clutch return spring in place on my 57 Nassau/Daytona/Sebring car and yet the clutch pedal has full pressure ( and no special spring under the dash that I can tell ). Three speed.which assembly line worker had the worst job in building the 53 to 57's? the poor fella that extended the clutch return spring? the dude adjusting the 4 speed shifter? the guy dropping the radiator down in the core support? my vote goes to the poor yahoo assigned the job of putting nuts on the windshield posts up in that hellish dogleg area above the courtesy lites. bet he stopped at the local tavern every nite after work. mike- Top

A few years back John Hinckley posted regarding the lack of need to use the gorilla spring.- Top

Re: most hateful c-1 resto chore
You don't need the gorilla spring if you use a diaphragm clutch if I recollect.
So far the worst thing I've had to do was strip black paint by hand from the entire underside of tha car, but that's cause I'm cheap.
But the factory guys didn't need to do that :P- Top

Re: most hateful c-1 resto chore
I think the guy who had to install (and even worst: fix) windshield wiper setups with that terrible wire-setup must have had trouble with his family every evening to blow of steam...

Re: most hateful c-1 resto chore
I can't believe what I'm reading. I would give my left testie to work on the C1 production line. I would love any job to be part of this motoring legend. Sorry but are you guys true Corvette guys !!!!
Any chance I get to tinker with my C1 is fulfilling and enjoyment. Don't care if I loose my knuckles or get cramp in any spot of my body I bloody love it.
