C4 replacement soft top

A colleague has a 1993 convertible. The original soft top is wearing and he expects soon to have to replace it. He strongly dislikes the "balloon top" appearance of many replacement soft tops. It appears they (the replacement tops) stretch at speed and do not retain their shape.

Is this a function of material or installation? How doe he avoid the "balloon option" in a replacement top?

Well, GM is not an option. All of the tops are discontinued. Here are the last part numbers I can find for reference:

10198659-----black

10198656-----white

10198660-----beige

However, the above tops have plastic rear windows and I believe the originals were glass. So, it may be that even these were some sort of SERVICE-only type piece.

You can glue or sew on pipe sleeves at the bows to stop the lift. Since it has the inner liner, they wouldn't show on the inside.
