    C6 Seats

I've a set of 05 3LT seats (memory, heat, airbags) that I want to put into an 07 1LT car. I'm only interested in basic functions for now, but when I connect the seats into the car I get nothing. I have the seats out and have tried going directly to the motors (all work in all directions), swapped out the switch for a known good switch. When I connect directly to the power wires (RD/WHT and BK) I still get nada. I could use shcematics and pintout of the connectors for the 05 and 07 seats so I can see if there is a mismatch between the two. Can anyone (probably two) help me with this?

    Re: C6 Seats

The 05 car has a different passenger side airbag system than the later C6. The later C6 seat has a weight detector in the seat that tells the passenger side airbag how to respond. Since the 05 car doesn't have the equipment to sense that seat signal at least some part, and maybe all, of the airbag portion of the 05 will not function with the newer seats. I would think the motors and the rest of the auxilary equipment could be made to work -- but it is possible without the airbag system functional you will have annoying signals at least -- and they may have made it so the car will nto start without the air bag system functional.

I have an 08 manual, and don't know how similar that might be to 07.

i put a set of 05 caddy escalade leather/heat/power seats in my 03 chevy pickup. too many sensors and different ECMs to allow for proper function. the seats are in the chevy but the instrument cluster constantly displays "airbag" problems. hence, don't know if air bags will deploy on impact. i like crap shoots.mike

I've heard the same thing about the airbags and don't expect them to work. Initially, the lumbar and heaters won't work, either until I can wire them in. Right now I just want basic functions. I had these in my 99 and they are much more comfortable than the 1LT seats, mostly because the lumbar. If anyone has a FSm for the 05 and could scan the schematic/pin connectors i would certainly appreciate it

Oh - and Happy New Year to everyone. Glad this one is behind us, but 2010 will be better!

use a volt meter to check the out put pins in the power cable and switch the pins in the connector to get power to the seats

My 3LT seats are now in my 1LT car. Thanks to those who provided suggestions and input.

In order to make the 3LT seats function they have to have a reference voltage that is normally supplied to the memory module. At this time I'm not using the memory module, but the voltage still needs to be there. On my 05 seats that voltage had to go to pin B3 (small red/white). Once I had 12V + there I had basic seat functions. To get the lumbar and bolsters to work I spliced into the switch harness and found the small red/white feeding the switch. That wire goes from red/white to solid dark blue on the other side of the connector on the switch side. I ran a wire from the large red/white feeding the main seat motor circuit to the small red/white at the switch and now have full lumbar and side bolster function.

The seat heaters will take more time. I need to get the switch and connectors for the OEM look I want. The original circuit has two heating positions, low and high. Normally this would be done by switching in two resistors of different values, but I think someone here said it actually goes through the HVAC system. If that is true, I'll just Radio Shack a couple appropriately-sized resistors and bypass the HVAC.

The passenger seat will take a trip to a salvage yard to get the harness, as there is no harness on that side in a 1LT car. I don't see this as much of an issue, as the passenger seat did not have memory and shouldn't need a second, reference voltage.

I hope this helps others who are thinking about doing the same thing. The basic wiring seems to be the same for all years, at least from 05 to 07, although I think the reference voltage on the one diagram I had showed it going into B1, whereas mine went into B3. Not a big deal, but I had to spend some time chasing things down so I didn't set the seats on fire.

I haven't looked in the FSM, but the seat heaters on my 08 are controlled by switches that seem independent of the HVAC system. there are three-position switches on each side of the ash tray. Off, medium and high. I haven't used the seat heaters enough to know for sure how they integrate with the HVAC, but the few times they were turned on accidentally or for a test the function of the HVAC seemed to have nothing to do with the seat heaters.

                James,

Do you have a fax number? I'll print out the schematics and fax them to you if this helps...

wiring diagrams would be a big help for when I try to get the seat heaters going. I've got the electrical on the lumbar and bolsters worked out now. I did notice that the seat belt connectors are different from the 05 passenger seat to the 07 one. I need to try to find out what the extra wires do on the 07 now. things are never easy.

I'll have to send you an email when I'm back in the office. My home fax machine is disconnected since my wife wanted to move the computer. Now there's no phone line nearby
