    '64 Heater core replacement

When replacing the heater core in a '64 is it necessary to remove the heater box on the engine side of the firewall or is it replaced from the interior behind the glove box.

    Engine side.

For safety, remove the battery as a first step.

There is probably a step by step list somewhere in the archives.

Be careful as both sides can crack easily if you force it.

The best way to replace it is from the inside of the car. This involves removal of the inner heater box and everything else it takes to do that.

The blower box on the engine side of the firewall does not have to be removed.

I agree with Joe,... the inside case must be removed to get the heater core out,... the outer cover does not really have to be disturbed but this may be a good time to clean up the motor (it's attached to the outer cover) and all the seals and gaskets.

I just did this exact thing to my 64 and it can be done either way. You definitely need an extra set of hands to reinstall the heater box from the inside. Now would be a great time to pull both sides off and clean and repaint if necessary.

            good luck,
            Craig
