    ray,

West NY is right there in Al Grenning's backyard and he has one of the best presentations on this topic that I have ever seen. Why reinvent the wheel ??? Does he not do them anymore ??

      Hi! John

I am not conducting a tech-session on engine pads, but a tech-session on small block C-1 engines. Our WNYNCRS chapter has a great number of C-1 Corvettes in our area and quite a few C-1s show up at our chapter meet for judging. I chose this topic because of an experience I had about six years ago. I was judging C-1 mechanical and we had two 1956s. This was the first time I had seen a 56 pad and the characters on the pad did not look anything like my 1961 pad. I did not feel it was fair to the owners of the 56s that I lacked the knowledge needed to judge their cars. By luck, one of our members is an original owner of a 1956 (he was not judging at this meet). He explained the information on the pad and he helped me through the pad judging process for a 56. This tech-session will not make an expert out of any of our member on the small block Chevy engine, but should provide information (pictures) for discussion. This will provide "basic" knowledge of what to look on a small block engine on the judging field. Many of our National NCRS members have taken the time to provide me with pictures and information from casting dates to the casting date stamp (tool) that was used to create a casting date. I have a picture of an original broach machine so we can discuss how a block was broached. I will be asking for additional information/help in the future on other small block components, so I hope I am not taking advantage of this forum and its members.

Thanks to all that have provided me with pictures and information, it is members like you that make the NCRS a great organization!!
